LPX cannot find Komplete 9 Native Instruments

Downloaded Logic Pro X hoping to use it as my Digital Audio Workspace to host Komplete Ultimate 9 (which should be 64 bit, yes?) I can't get the two programs to talk to each other! Many people have reported that NI and LPX are fully compatible and work together perfectly, totally hassle-free... but I can't figure it out to save my life ( saving the money is kind of too late)

Various suggestions about what may be wrong, based on wading through Apple and NI forums, include:

1) LPX will only play 64bit au plugins. But Ultimate 9 (being relatively new) is by default 64 bit, right? How do I tell whether my plugins are 32 or 64 bit? And where exactly are these au plugins stored? Does it matter? Even if I could find them, some users have warned not to move them because it might affect KONTAKT's ability to use them.

2) I've only been able to install the default install settings for LPX (without all the extra add-on instruments). It prompts me with an option to download additional content, including one box called "Legacy and Compatibility". I've tried downloading this three times but my internet connection estimates it will take 36 hours and it keeps timing out on me overnight. Perhaps this is why LPX does not recognize any of the NI content installed on the same drive(?). I've tried reinstalling the plug-ins from NI, ensuring they are up-to-date; but nothing shows up as even an option as a software instrument in LPX. Rescanning library does not find any instruments other than the stock LPX choices.

3) I've read that one way to use NI instruments is to use NI's KONTAKT as a software instrument hosted by LPX. I have version 5.2.1 (the latest) installed & fully registered, but no bones with this attempt either. It isn't listed as an option in the pull down menu no matter how many times I refresh, and when I try to select it from its location in the "Load" screen of the instruments panel, I can see the application file, but it is all greyed out and not selectable.

4) Another avenue I've tried is opening LogicProX=>Preferences=>Audio Settings, where you can a supposedly map the location of the au plugins manually(?) Unfortunately my "Audio Settings" are not even bringing a menu up. Do I have to delete the application and re-download it from the store?

I was hoping to send my grievances into the ether... O all knowing internet... Illuminate the way forward with your light-emitting diode for this muted musician.....

Thank you for responding!

Yes, I have read what seemed to be the relevant parts of the user guide. I want to "add an instrument plugin" right? When I click the "Instruments Tab" as directed, I have a list of choices, but none of my NI plugins appear. The picture in the user guide shows the option "AU Generators" and "AU Instruments" at the very bottom of the drop down menu. My menu does not display these options. But I am certain that I have them (work in Kontakt)!User uploaded file

When I say that "I am certain that I have them" I mean that I am certain that I have a fully registered, fully functional copy of "Native Instruments Ultimate 9". What I am not so sure of is whether I have these "AU plugins". Apparently they should look like "*.component" files, but I'm not sure if whether the fact I can't find "*.component" files on my HDD indicates whether I am missing something or not. Am I even asking the right questions? *shrug*

I'd appreciate any insight you (or anyone) might have, even if it is just a "blind hope" guess. I've been chomping at the bit to get this working for a long time!

Thanks!

Brian,

The NI Plugins are not installed otherwise they would have shown up in that drop down menu you took a screenshot of.. under the Audiounit Plug-ins section which is not even showing up.....

Are you sure, during the install process you made sure that the AudioUnit (AU) versions were selected and installed? Did you change the default installation location by any chance? If so, don't.. Make sure you installed the plugins themselves to your System drive... You can install the libraries to a different drive but not the plugins like Kontakt, etc...

Dumb question.. but you did restart LPX after you installed Komplete 9 yes? You have to do this so the AudioUnit manager can scan the plugins correctly...

The plugins can be found in the system drive library.... (Not the User Library..)

The path to them should look something like...

Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components

and not Macintosh HD/<Your user name>/Library/Audio etc................

If your system drive has a different name to the usual default name then replace Macintosh HD with the name of your system drive (System drive is the drive on which OS X is installed)

if you are sure you installed them and they show up in the components folder then open Logic pro X and go to the AudioUnits Manager under the preferences part of the Logic Pro menu and check there to make sure they are being seen by Logic Pro... if they are not there, they are not installed correctly for some reason..

Thank you! I finally found the Components in exactly the place you described. Part of the trouble, I now realize, is that my "Macintosh HD" had been renamed as "Untitled". That seemed like an easy fix. I just changed the name on the desktop. Restarted Logic Pro X. AU plugins still do not show up. I can find the AudioUnits manager (see below) but when I click on it, the box blinks but does not bring up a menu. I do have a second monitor connected to my macbook, so I minimized everything and tried again. The GUI gives me the "blink" feedback to show that it recognized that I tried to give a command... but then no menu. I unplug the other monitor and try again. No luck. I had hoped that by changing the name of the HD from "Untitled" to "Macintosh HD" (with a space and not an underscore, right?) would set me on the right path... but now NEITHER Logic Pro OR Kontakt can find the library!! So, since we human beings need to sleep, I will uninstall and then reinstall Native Instruments overnight on the drive now named "Macintosh HD." I'll report if I get different results tomorrow

( I captured some video to show what *isn't* happening, but it won't let me attach. Here is a pic to confirm I went to the right place) Thanks again!

Brian,

Did you use Migration Assistant at some point to move stuff from one computer to another?

If so, this is probably where your issues lie....

Many people have reported issues after using MA because the User Accounts get changed/messed up so....

The only real solution is to start again from scratch..

Manually save out your personal data (Projects/docs/photos etc...) to an external HD

Re-install OS X and then Logic and it's content and then any 3rd party plugins...

Manually move your personal data back over to system HD

Done!

I did not use Migration Assistant, I suspect my permissions issues may have been related to me erasing a BOOTCAMP partition from my HD in order to have enough space for Native Instruments. I spent many hours troubleshooting an issue with having deleted the partition but the space not being available, tweaking this or that based on suggestions in the forums. For some reason reinserting the partition at the same place allowed Disk Utility/Boot Camp Assistant to re-delete and restore my space. I ran into permissions problems at that juncture, too, which I was altogether too anxious to forget.

I'm afraid you are right. The sooner I start rounding up what I need to salvage from my HD, the sooner I can set things straight from the ground up.

Cheers! You have been very very helpful! I'll report back when I get results

Brian,

Yes.. unfortunately permission issues when caused by certain activities, can be a real pain to resolve and sometimes it is simply better and a heck of a lot easier, to just start again from scratch...

I know this all too well.. I have had to do it myself after spending a couple of weeks 'fighting' with such permission issues... and in the end a 'start again' approach immediately fixed the issues and made me realize I should have done this at the very beginning as I was previously advised by someone else rather than spend countless hours trying to 'fix' the problem... fruitlessly as it turned out.

Cheers..
