iPhone 5 / 5S Owners - Is this normal?

Hello,

I have got my new iPhone 5S on friday and it's awesome. But I think i have got a defective device and need some advice from other iPhone 5 / 5S users if this is normal or not.

First: The Power-Button is pretty loose and if shaken it sounds like a baby rattle . Its definitely not the camera lens which I know from my iPhone 4S. You can even hear it when the phone vibrates.

Second: On tables or flat surfaces the phone spins like ****. You can even play spin the bottle with it. I mean I can live with both issues but my problem is that I will probably see shortly a pointed scuff on the backside.

What should I do?

Make an appointment and take it in for someone at apple to take a look at it.

I would say it is faulty, all that was changed was a coating was added according to Apple and they never give out proprietary information so thats as good as we get, to have a button so loose it makes a noise when you tilt your phone so its picked up by the microphone when video recording is definitely not normal. My iPhone 5 was tight its was never loose. We are only a small selection of users so the forum will be skewed with people having a bad time. There are phones with tighter power buttons out there, and having when that sounds like a Maraca is not by design.

You said....."Vibrate yes... but nothing should rattle"

They have a tiny space to vibrate,..... otherwise it cannot vibrate the casing correctly.

Correction:

Your disagreement is noted, however you are wrong none the less.

heres a pic of the part, it is DESIGNED to sit loosely in the iphone, some note a slightly louder rattle than others, but it IS NORMAL

Noted youve handled several

Ive handled 100s. Some of them if you shake them (which isnt a normal use of the phone anyway) make tiny rattle noise

A few are a bit louder than others. Many people ask about this question in the past and present.

It is common notion to think "hey, if this device has got a rattle, something is wrong or broken with this thing".

This reminds me of another mechanism (not Apple) in which people took it apart and tightened down a part in the item which rattled, this kept it from working right,... it was designed to 'float' inside the mechanism.

If youre shaking your Iphone a lot, I forward you have a bit too much time on your hands. 😊

its hard to "rattle a rattle" if youre sitting on it.

Rightly so, you need space to "rattle a rattle", or in this case for the little vibrator to shake inside the phone.

Peace. 😊

I personally handled and tested all 5S iPhones at my local apple store and they all rattled just like mine. Some more than others. I also tested the iphone 5 from 2 of my relatives and they have the same rattle. It doesn't affect the performance on my iphone at all. Was it designed that way? According to Apple, they told me it was designed this way when I asked them about it.

Again tiny rattle and baby rattle are two entirely different species. You ever use a baby rattle? I have many young siblings and they are most deffinitely NEVER described as making anything related to a tiny noise. I am basig my opinion on the information provided. You are basing your opinion on something that the person did not even say.

Tiny rattle: not mentioned.

Baby rattle: mentioned.

Resolution: Have apple check it out just in case, so that if you get to the end of your warranty and something has been too loose or misaligned and caused other failures, you are not completely out of luck.

Good luck, Good Sir!!! 🙂

Because pushing down on the power button causes the rattle to stop, so then its not the vibrate mechanism, its the power button, if it was the vibrate it would still make a 'loud' rattle, I agree a minute noise is nothing, but when you pick your phone up and you hear it from inside a Apple leather case and a pouch to protect it from drops then that is certainly not normal. Yet oddly with gentle pressure on the power button no rattle, and the vibrate still works and sound the same, so your argument is flawed. Never in the history of owning an iPhone have I had a loud rattle when i take calls as my wheelchair hits bumps, or have a clicking noise in videos if my phone tilts down. Please don't assume just because you have such a highly rated help level you cannot be wrong. For 'some' phones there is an issue.
