Q: IPhone 5 in iOS7 flashlight and camera not working

Hi,

I have iphone5 and just recently updated to ios7. Now, i noticed that the main camera is not working, not sure though because i can see my figure but super blurry like its really not working and when i switched it to front camera it works back sometimesnit wont even be switches to front camera. As well i notice that the flashlight in control panel is grayed out and cant be turned on! Any fix for this? Is this an ios7 issue?

I had the same problem it's definitely a software issue because the camera would sometimes work in camera apps but now I could not switch cameras at all.

I may have found a solution of course I probably won't get credit for thanks to Apple.

I believe the problem arises from a bug when the camera is used in lock mode, try restarting your phone with the home and power button. Then open your camera in locked mode and set the flash to auto. Maybe take a few pictures, switch the camera back and fourth, turn HDR on and off, but make sure the flash is set to auto before you unlock the phone. Heck even try playing with the flashlight.

After I did this in locked mode to my surprise my camera and flashlight are now fully functional after I have unlocked it with the password. I'm not to sure what triggered this bug but when I first got iOS 7 and played with my phone some how I unlocked the lock screen without putting in a password. Just by using the camera and the notification and control Center, I unlocked the phone which might of triggered the bug.

I noticed this issue today and This worked for me:

Just shoot a pic with flash on and flashlight came available back on control center.

I've got the same issue, but your suggested workaround didn't help any.

The camera app seems to freeze after I press a few buttons, and when it freezes it switched the flash from "auto" (which I set, per your suggestion) back to "on" (which was the setting it defaulted to when I launched the camera from the lock screen).

I have the same issue, the camera is just a black screen,it will freeze if i hit any selection.  The flashlight on the quick launch wont work, it is "greyed out"

Resets etc dont work, any one find a solution?

Having the same issue as squigmang.

Bought a brand new iPhone 5C today. Camera and flashlight were working about an hour ago, now the flashlight is greyed out in the control center and the camera isn't working. I've tried the work around and restarted the phone about 3 times. Still no luck.

Well I am going to try Backing up and restoring first. That's a lot of trouble to go through

Don't panic! Just wait it out a little.

Take several pics with flash on (not auto).

Try restarting ur phone ( home+ power )

I ended up getting my phone replaced at my local Apple Store and, of course, that did the trick for me!

I have same problem, tried all the work a rounds. unfortunately my warranty is out of date by 60days, apple informed me I have to pay over £200 for replacement phone. surely if it's a problem with their softwear, and not my fault they should replace it free. been to Genius Bar and had it checked for damage, water and other includiding illegal use all came out in my favour but still told I have to pay.. anyone else with prob had any better luck with apple. Don't see how I should be out of pocket for their softwear error.

Same problem in that back camera wouldn't display anything but a blank screen, and flashlight icon was grayed out.

    This is what I did;

    1) played around with resetting apps/iphone- NOTHING

    2) reset iphone to factory settings via iTunes and backed up- NOTHING

    So....

I spoke to online Apple support, who I might add were very helpful, and they run a diagnostic check on my phone. It returned an issue with the battery test but nothing that might answer the issue I had. They arranged for an appointment at my local apple store which I attended today...

I was dealt with efficiently and the Genius just checked checked the functionality of the camera and flashlight to ensure what I was saying was correct, and then said "that the camera cannot intiliase the camera module".

Yes my phone was under warranty and they just provided a new handset. Was in and out of the store in 15 mins.

Hope that helps those that are still under warranty.
