IPhone 5 in iOS7 flashlight and camera not working

Hi,

I have iphone5 and just recently updated to ios7. Now, i noticed that the main camera is not working, not sure though because i can see my figure but super blurry like its really not working and when i switched it to front camera it works back sometimesnit wont even be switches to front camera. As well i notice that the flashlight in control panel is grayed out and cant be turned on! Any fix for this? Is this an ios7 issue?

I have been having this same issue for over a month ago and even after surfing online for the solution and trying them(changing battery, hard reset including all the solutions here) nothing worked. Yesterday while checking up fixes on YouTube I saw a recent video on how to fix this issue and it actually worked for me. Hope it works for others too.. video link:

Hey everyone, I was chekin' out videos on youtube about this problem and I found a comment what worked for me:

"Radko Vattai 2 months ago

HEY, So... I just recently tried this. There's a whole thread on apple forums about this problem. I had this problem after updating to the new ios7 so annoying. anyways the trick I did for now my back side camera is working because all I did was PUSH DOWN REALLY HARD on the top right corner of the phone where the camera is. I was pushing with my thumbs and fingers on the backside camera and then I restarted it with the home and lock button and when it turned on it works.... I don't know how long it'll last but try it out."

Hope it works for you guys as well,

Cheers!

wow. this worked perfectly. can not believe some obscure list of directions would fix the flashlight on an iphone 5. so this is definitely a software issue. Am running the latest ios9 version on the iphone 5.

Same problem here. Greyed out flashlight from the control center. This is what I did to fix it:

1. Close all apps

2. Lock the phone (screen off --- on-off button in upper right top of iphone)

3. Press the lock/unlock button (on-off button in upper right top of iphone); and then from the locked screen open control center (slide up from the bottom); and launch the timer app.

4. Lock the phone

5. Press the lock/unlock button and from the locked screen open control center and push the play icon. This needs to play a song from your playlist.

6. Lock the phone

7. Press the lock/unlock button and from the locked screen slide the camera icon up from the bottom right hand corner to the launch the camera app. Do not take any photos, just count about 5 seconds and then press the home button to exit.

8. Now slide the control center up, the flashlight should now work.

******** spoke too soon. now stopped working a few moments later. mayb need to do this in combination with the note in my next posting.

ALright people here is the root cause analysis

What caused the issue?

When you tap on the Do not disturb mode and leave it for long - knowingly or accidently it causes the flash soft key to fail and it stops responding

SOLUTION :

TURN ON & Off (do not disturb key - under SETTINGS - DO NOT DISTURB - cycle the MANUAL button a couple times) and it resolves the problem for a little while. but expect the issue to return and just be ready for it.

+++++++++++ This fix seems to be holding for a few minutes, then fails again, but I had also done a full reset on the iphone5 yesterday, so for others you might need to do both. full reset still retains all your apps and data.

from reading what others are saying it looks like the camera module might be going bad, or has gone bad. did a restore and the flash was still not working. Then activated the camera app for the first time in the fresh restore and the flash started working, for a few minutes. About ten minutes later the flash stopped working.

So just be careful if you have service done on your iphone5, as it could work for a while and then stop working. You want a company who will stick behind their repairs. So maybe the GENIUS BAR or maybe a certified apple repair facility to get it repaired.

tried having the camera module replaced. did not work to fix the flash for more than a few hours. The flash would still not come on. Camera has always worked fine and continues to work.

Finally tried turning of all connections to GPS from the CAMERA and boom the flash started working. So it looks like GPS and FLASH on the IPHONE 5 are incompatible.

I had the same issue.with the flashlight button gray and not operating. I fixed it by simply rebooting the phone.

Holding the right side off button and the round bottom button at the same time till the screen goes dark, about 5 sec.

Then in about 15 seconds press and hold the right side button till the Apple logo appears.

Phone rebooted and flashlight worked as normal.

I tried all the solutions above - 'Do not disturb', hard resets etc, but the only fix that worked for me was pressing hard on the camera lens and twisting and flexing the camera and then did hard reset and the flashlight and camera started working. I think it must be a bad contact somewhere in the camera/flash electronics and pinching the lens and flexing the camera must restore the connection.
