Q: Numbers crashing on Network Accounts
Hello.
We are running 10 iMacs (of various vintages) in our office and they all connect via network accounts and share points via a Mac Mini Server. We access numbers templates from the server and save copies of the document it produces back onto a networked share point. We have had this problem for around 4 months ever since we changed our setup from local machines running local accounts to networked accounts with share points, we also updated from os 10.6 to 10.8 at the same time.
The problem we are getting occurs at no specific times with no noticeable pattern. The Numbers App will crash ("Numbers as unexpectedly quit") and will deletes the file being worked on from the server. This is causing colleagues to lose work that have produced as the original file is deleted and a backup file is left in its place. This issue also occurs if someone opens and existing document (rather than a template) and edits it from the server.
At the moment we are about to start trying to save local copies to users desktops in the hopes that this will be a workaround for the problem. However the ideal solution is for us to be able to work directly on documents held on the server without fear of any crashes or work being lost.
I'm looking for any advice on this or for someone to point me in the right direction. I can supply any extra information that is required.
Thanks in advance.
