Since updating my itunes i cannot connect to home sharing.
Home sharing is on on my laptop yet it doesn't recognise it is on. Can you help me?

I have the same issue. I am running iTunes 11.1 and Apple TV 5.3 (6105). I am wondering if this has something to do with the Apple TV 6.0 software that was released and removed. My guess is that 6.0 was supposed to work with 11.1 itunes.
Can someone cofirm this??
I believe Apple have re-released 6.0 update this morning?
Will have to wait until I get home from work to see if this will solve things!?
I seemed to have missed one step. I turned on Home Sharing in the preferences but did not realize that I needed to turn it on here also. File > Home Sharing > Turn on Home Sharing
Now it is working fine!!
Unfortunately I don't think this will work for me as both devices, iTunes and Apple TV were both tuned on to Home Sharing. 😟
I will endeavour to continue this battle in a few hours
So I've got home and updated Apple TV and still home sharing is not working?
After going to computer it says 'Loading Library' - after sometime it says
"Could not connect to Library"
Make sure the computer is on the same network as your Apple TV, the iTunes version is up to date and itunes is running.
All of the above are true i believe? They are both on the same wifi network, itunes is up to date and on?

I should at this point add that we have just had fibre installed and a new BT Hub 4!
I believe this may be the issue!!!
I believe this is an (ATV) problem, not itunes.
1) Make sure you have the latest (ATV) update build number (11A502)
2) Unplug you (ATV)
3) Turn on home sharing on itunes on your computer.
4) Use the remote app and see if your music library appears on your iphone, or ipad. If so, then plug (ATV) back in and you should be back in business.

Just fyi I did try pinging address etc last night, and discovered a 'port 23' issue? Now I'm not stupid when it comes to these things but I needed some help here.
It seems that unblocking port 23 through windows firewall has at least managed to make ATV see some of the library?!
Can you tell me where you found "FILE"? You're talking about turning on Home Connect in iTunes, right? I've been trying to turn Home Connect on but cannot find "FILE" anywhere. I can't find my tiny apple remote and am bored stiff. I have trouble sleeping and need the tv. UGH!
I am not sure what you mean by "home connect". Home Sharing in iTunes lets you share your iTunes media libraries between computers in your household. You can also use Home Sharing to play your iTunes content on Apple TV. This is something that you have to turn on. If you launch iTunes you will see "file" at the top of your computer. Then just turn it on by going to File > Home Sharing > Turn on Home Sharing.

Have a look at the "Remote" app in the app store, it can work as a replacement remote for your ATV as well as control your home sharing of itunes if setup.
