wifi greyed out after update to ios7

It is a hardware issue. All the presumtions, that it is a software related problem, are false. I tried all of the suggestions, updates and it did not get the wifi slider to move. sent it to PODMOD . de and the germans fixed it. paid 29 euro for the fix plus postage. told me there were two options: the fix, possible if the WLAN CHIP is not damaged or the exchange of the Chip, which costs 69 euro. was lucky to get it fixed. That was at upgrade from 6.x to 7.x. My sister had issues with update to 7.1, i did not. again, sent it to podmod . de and got it fixed in just two days with postage. paid with paypal. reading this thread makes me wonder what magic tricks folks believe and what they do in plain belief that some magical twists would get a hardware fail heal. it is hardware and it needs a fix.

anyways...

im just gonna post this again for everyone that doesnt want to try the hairdryer method or the very questionable podmod.

- reset network settings

- back up and restore. test issue before restoring back up.

- get phone replaced

in that order

well, this issue has been going on for quite some time. Face it, Apple screwed us...

My wife and I jumped to Samsung and love the galaxy products. Once my Ipad3 is out of date, taking that to Samsung as well.

Apple's lack of concern for this issue made me jump ship after a decade of being a loyal customer with more than 10 devices purchased for family and friends. I'm happy now and so far issue free...

My next phone will be definitely NOT an iphone. bad standard warrenty of only 1 year for a very expensive device. is that quality? so many people are facing this hardware problem with the chip (if it is one?) and apple is ignoring it. I would say planed obsolescence by apple.

normally id agree with u. until i realized that the 1 year warranty is standard if not better then all the other phone companies warranties. samsung and the like also usually come with 1 year warranties according to my friend who has one and if the wifi chip inside of them broke for ANY reason outside of warranty ud probably have an even tougher time trying to get them to do anything about it without paying a lot.

I wonder who keeps defending Apple on this issue? Maybe some "Genius(es)" that are sitting without anything else to do. Wait till you all (and I mean real paying customers) get the same issue and I want to see you come here and defend Apple on their own wrong doing.

This is a symptom of a disease, Apple's offering of inappropriate upgrades to older devices (with no choice of rolling back those upgrades), eventually making them degraded or even unuseable. The latest example is ios 7 for older iPhones. Even minor upgrades are forced on the customer by Apple's combining security upgrades with those inappropriate or unneeded upgrades. Unsuspecting non-tech users (and some high tech users), trusting Apple's reputation (it just works!), eventually find themselves with devices that after the upgrade are sometimes degraded or even bricked, requiring that the user spend hours trying to fix the problem or buy a new device.

Quick update, much against logic as I'm a software engineer, and with nothing to lose, I've tried the freezer fix, put Ipad on a ziploc for 20 min (actually left for 25 as I almost forgot that it was there), took it out left 5-10 min resting out of the bag, and voilà the wifi is back (now for 10 minutes). Now of course this defies logic as to a real defective wifi would never work, some people say that it works for few days to months, so my question to those level 8 and "genius" is why Apple doesn't explain what the heck actually happens when hairdryer and freezer fix is applied to their devices, from physics I know expansion and contractions due to temperature and atoms, but really Apple how is this possible?

That's what I'm doing it here, at least this is their domain (Apple.com). Bottom line is, if they don;t want to assume that the update somehow related to this and they will not take you seriously on a real issue, they should bite the bullet and be ridicularized by post that the only way to fix it is the hairdryer or freezer fix and at least let some users have some extra use of their beloved devices. This issue is growing on youtube, blogs, etc... I think they should take this more seriously, as word of mouth works both ways (good and bad) for any company's reputation. Well, happy with Apple again for 30 minutes or till the wifi grayed out issue comes back again, I guess I should keep some space on my freezer just in case.

This site is manned by volunteers, not by Apple.

I'm sure they have an intern to take a peek here from time to time to get a sense of what issues are arising...

Maybe, maybe not.

As they do have an official method of submitting feedback, (which they do check) this would seem to be the less likely method.
