Using 10.7.5: How do I set the default WiFi to be my own network router/access point? I have to manually select it from a long list every time the mac wakes up, every time it starts up. Known networks are not joined automatically. Thanks.

> System Preferences > Network > select the WiFi device > check Ask to Join New Networks
and
...> select the WiFi device > Advanced... > WiFi > check Remember Networks This Computer has jouned
FWIW, if you have a long list of WiFi networks to select from, then you'll probably also want to switch your network over to 5 GHz networking, if your Mac and your WiFi device both support that; you're probably in a fairly dense area for WiFi, and 5 GHz is a little less packed than is 2.4 GHz.
