Q: AirDrop missing from the "New iPad" (iPad3)

I purchased a "New iPad" (3rd gen.) at launch (Mar 7th 2012) only to see it replaced six months later by another version (4th gen.)

Now I updated to iOS7 hoping to make the most of this out-dated iPad.  Unfortunately, features such as Airdrop seem to missing from 3rd gen. Running iOS7.

WHY? WHY? WHY?  How much more inconsiderate we get? 

So to use Airdrop, it means I must buy a new 4 gen. iPad and dump any previous model...  Hmmm... Brilliant!
