Q: Wifi not working after upgrade to iOS 7

After upgrading iOS 7 on my iPhone 4S, the wifi is not working. It cannot detect any wifi nor am I able to enable wifi under settings. Is there a way for me to fix this?

I've tried all the suggested fixes but nothing works!

I am out of warranty, but from my research I understand that when I updated the OS to iOS7.0.2 that the wifi chip within my 4s, which apparently was susceptible to a problem, a latent defect in the phone, was brought to the surface and thus the phone is permanently damaged; however, apparently this is my responsibility!

I have the grayed-out wifi selection on my 4S.  I fixed this a few weeks ago by accidentally letting my phone completely discharge.  Upon charge & power-up it started working again.  Although I swore to never turn off the wireless again, I did so anyway to extend my talk time recently.  Big mistake.  It's broken again and my discharge-fix did not do the trick this time.

I'm fed up and have lost faith in Apple as a result of this issue.  Reluctantly I plan to switch platforms in January when eligible.  :-(

I have had the same issue.
I have contacted a repair place in Australia where I am and they say this is a common issue, wifi greyed out or non existent since the update.
I will book my phone in for a repair and let you know how the repair goes.
They have a no fix/no fee policy and it costs 60 Australian dollars as opposed to the £166 I was quoted for a UK repair.

    I have ordered a fairphone from fairphone.com

There is a software conflict somewhere in the new update relating to data connection, just my view...try this as it works for me...turn off cellular data first before turning on wifi...once wifi recognizes your LAN go through the usual connect, you'll get a tick, but you'll find wifi is still not connected...tap home button to get out of wifi setting screen. Now go straight back into settings\wifi (cellular is still off) allow the wifi to find your LAN again, & for some absurd reason this second attempt connects the iPhone to the LAN & the wifi icon magically appears left of centre, top of screen...I also found this immediate second attempt also works through safari...I know it's a pain but it allowed me to connect this way :)

Connection was fine before the ios7 update on the 2 LANs I have, fixed & mobile...the fixed netgear modem/router I have to say doesn't have a connection problem with either my 4 or 5 but my huewai mobile 3G dongle now does...but after trying a few things stumbled onto the connection method above...give it a try & see what happens...there's a solution for most problems, just need to weed them out...

Apple should really be acutely proactive about remedying the problematic issues presented by the new update & consumers certainly shouldn't be put out of pocket...

If the problem is restricted to one or two networks, and the phone works on other networks, 99% of the time the problem is with the router, not with the phone. As a first step reboot the router by removing all power from it for about 15 seconds. Unplug it, as the power switch on some routers is not a sure way to remove all power; it's more like a guideline for the router rather than a rule. Next step is to check that the router has the latest firmware version.

After the 7.0.2 update my iPhone 4S fails to search & recognize available wifi networks. Tried connecting to various routers but nothing were recognised. Otherwise devices work perfect in those wifi sources.

When tried consulting with Apple service centre in Trivandrum, India they suggested to get my 4s replaced for ₹12000 (approx 195 USD) since am out of warranty.

Have tried all solutions suggested in this thread but all were in vain.

Have been using this device perfectly for the last one and half year. Not going to get 4s replaced with this cost. Waiting to hear from from apple whether actually it's a hardware error or software error.

Hey Kwinn111, I have had the same issues.
You can see by the scrren grab of my chat with them below they say it is impossible for software to break hardware.
I have been told, not by Apple of course, that it is possible for the new software to increase voltage which can blow some soldering or something for the wifi.

Go to the router manufacturer's web site and follow the upgrade instructions there.

If your wifi still isn't working on the new update I would take it back to apple, as my 4s is now working again due to the new update.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had been to Best Buy and they advised me to do factory reset which I did but still the wifi button is greyed. I am now worried if the software causes problem to any hardware. I don't know how and where to raise this problem. Any help or info is appreciated.
