Apple TV v6.0 Lockup and Lost Rental

I rented a movie on my Apple TV which has version 6.0 firmware. About 90 minutes into the movie, playback abruptly stopped and the apple TV software locked up. I had to hard-reboot the Apple TV to regain control of it (move the cursor). I was unable to resume playing the movie so I confirmed my network had internet access but rebooted all network devices anyway, with no success. After repeated attempts I was unable to resume playing the movie and the "Check for Rentals" function was unable to find my existing rental, it never returned any resutls.

Is the device working ok now?

I would contact iTunes about the rental

The next day, but before the 24 hour rental expired, the "Check for Rentals" funtion still failed to return any results. So I updated the Apple TV's 6.0 firmware to the very latest 11A502, (compared to the old 11A470e version) and it still failed to find my rental.

I contacted iTunes for a rental refund and am awaiting a reply.

A rotten apple taste is left behind when one gets their entire family together to watch a movie and halfway through it technical issues halt the entertainment for the evening.

I had the exact same problem. A real pain when trying to watch a movie. Logging out and then back in solved the problem. I had to do a lot of scrubbing to get back to the right place in the movie though. Initially the movie just stopped without warning. Hope the quality of Apple products are not going down the pan, that's the last thing I want to see. Hope there's a fix soon for the non-technical apple fans/users!

worked for me too (signing out/in). After that it said I had no downloads but when I tried to rent again, the rent button had change into Play.

it's getting so much harder to watch TV these days. Last night to watch an episode of Homeland on Showtime I had to CREATE a folder in my ~/Library folder called Internet-plugins. Seriously.

thanks for the help!

Same problem. Ended up renting movie again after I tried numerous times to "Check for Rentals" and the wheel kept spinning to no avail. Found this thread, after re-renting, and tried signing out of account & back-in. It worked. But, sent Apple an email and they refunded $4.99 for original rental that I couldn't find (still had 8 days left on rental). Their directions were to do the same (log out & back into account).

Frustating that is the solution. Seems a bug needs to be fixed.
