How to get rid of Pop Ups, Pop Unders and YouTube ads

Ever since AdBlock stopped working in Safari, I've searched til no end for another program, or extension, that will get rid of all pop ups, pop unders, and YouTube ads and banners for Safari. Nothing.

This astounds me because I've never known Mac gurus to not be on top of somthing like this. Are there any alternatives? I only use Safari and not Firefox or Chrome.

I've downloaded Glimmer Blocker but it doesn't stop pop-unders at all. Is there a hack to get it to? What is everyone else doing? I can't imagine people are just putting up with the bombardment of ads! Please, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Just to double check but did you made sure to download the latest version of the extension and ensure that it was enabled inside the Safari setting's menu?

Let us know!

Thank you for responding!

Yes, I double checked. All of my extensions are auto updated. AdBlocker hasn't worked for Safari for awhile now. Many folks are having the same problem. Mostly folks on YouTube, which is where I spend a considerable amount of time.

Clarification: Not to be confused with AdBlocker PLUS, which is NOT available for Safari.

They arent. I use Safari when I'm testing webpages. I have to use it, along with Opera, Firefox and Internet Exploder on my PCs. I won't use Chrome anymore, but I HAVE to keep the others.

As my primary browser, I use Firefox, and have since the days when it was Mozilla, and later "Firebird". Most of the really good extensions are made for it, because most of the developers use it as their primary browser too.
Lately, I get a sense that a lot of developers are treating Safari like IE, in that it comes with the OS, so people will use it by default. They want people to "think outside the box" and not just use something because it comes with the computer.

I've seen over the last three years, several plugins I used in both Safari and Firefox, lose availability in Safari. So I keep using Firefox and testing in Safari.

Thanks for responding. I used to use Firefox, when my iMac had Leopard and Snow Leopard. Eventually, Firefox was having way too many issues. It became very slow and the OS would quit unexpectedly several times a day. Again, I wasn't the only person experiencing this. Most of the people at that time said they switched back to Safari because it worked better and they didn't have any problems with it. So, I did too.

I've not had any issues with Safari whatsoever. Just with AdBlocker not working anymore and ads reappearing again.

Sorry, you said AdBlocker in a second post and I thought it was a different product.

That AdBlock works for me and not for you probably indicates there's a configuration problem on your side in some way and not that it's totally broken. If it were totally broken, I'd see it almost immediately.

AdBlock is a browser-specific proxy, whereas GlimmerBlocker is a system-wide proxy which runs as a system-wide service. The latter has MANY more chances of accidentally breaking things, and takes a lot more system resources FWIW.

Oh and as far as YouTube ads, I get those on the video and I get the pre-rolls as well. They're probably tougher to get rid of as Google owns everything and will try and break any and all tricks to get their ad money.
