Airprint problems. Brother printer, brother print and scan finds the printer on the net work. All other APS say no printers found?

i just found a solution after a lot of failed trials

ipv6 should be enabled on the printer setup

you can access the printer setup by typing its IP address on your webbrowser

For me

http://192.168.0.36/net/wireless/ipv6.html

I tried everything before that (firmware / Dns / dhcp / ip /...)

Nothing worked until I enabled the ipv6

was getting very frustrated

Thanks Sly-canada, enabling IPv6 (just ticking the box in network/wireless/IPv6 tab as per screenshot below) worked for my brand new Brother MFC-J4620DW printer.

My symptoms and network setup are a mix of what I have seen in the posts before and as I do not have a clue why the solution worked, I thought to share them for completeness.

I have a 2 wireless access points that have the same SSID to cover the whole house, both access points have 5GHz and 2.4GHz bandwidth enabled.

When I initially set up the printer to the wireless network, airprint worked for a few minutes and then the printer was no longer listed in my iphone and ipad.

I got printing via wifi working without any issues on my Windows 7 64bit laptop and the printer was solid available during my afternoon of fixing the airprint dropping away.

All seems to be fine working now, laptop printing, airprint from iOS devices. Happy me.

Thank you so much for posting this fix! I struggled with what seems to be similar problems other users had and tried multiple fixes and this finally solved the problem for me! I have been able to print multiple jobs wirelessly without experiencing any problems!

Oh Brother where art thou???

I recently purchased a Brother DCP-L2520DW on Black Friday and was excited to have a 3-in-1 wireless laser printer at a super price that works with AirPrint. However, as stated in previous posts it only works when the printer has recently been power cycled or is active/and awake.

The printer has the latest firmware, so I followed your suggestion and enabled IPV6 as it's disabled by default. BAM! It worked. Thanks!

I cannot fathom why IPv6 needs to be enabled, but this fixed my problem too. My Brother HL-L2340D printer would disappear from Airprint every time it went to sleep (default is one minute). After enabling IPv6 under the wireless menu, I can print even when the printer is sleeping. It just wakes up.

I'm back..........

Posting response to my own post from just over a year ago.

For reasons I can't fathom, my Brother HL-L2340DW printer will not print via wireless network again. Seemingly randomly, problem recurred again today. Unable to print via wireless network.

Trying to print via home wireless network from desktop iMac (OS X El Capitan; 10.11.6). Have been able to print without problems for months. Today, no go. When I try to print, for example a MS Word document, printer logo appears in bar at bottom of desktop screen but job does not print. Clicking on logo, print queue shows up with message for job that notes "printing...looking for printer" but above that it says "printer is not connected".

Have tried the iPV6 enable trick but does not work this time. Interestingly, IPV6 *was* disabled when I entered printer IP address into browser and checked settings. But enabling it does not solve problem this time.

Have tried deleting printer and re-install of printer and driver software (big pain and time suck). have tried firmware update as well.

have tried the simple stuff, too (turned router on/off, turned printer on/off, turned computer on/off).

have now tried everything I can think of and printer is useless/will not print via wireless network.

Still able to print from my spouse's windows desktop via the same wireless network.

Given my experience with Brother support, doubt they will be helpful. (Last year, after 45+ minutes, help line person stated if printer could print test page from printer interface and WLAN report showed connection was OK, there was nothing wrong with printer and there was nothing Brother could do to help solve wireless printing issues.)

Life is too short. My next step may be to buy a different brand of printer that will work with an iMac via a wireless network. Having spent hours and hours on this months ago and again today, my time is worth more than the cost of a new (non-Brother) printer that will work. Will let spouse continue to use the Brother.

Too bad we seem to need 2 different printers in one house, though.

My brand-new Brother HL-L2380DW was not working with AirPrint. iPad and iPhone both said "no AirPrint printers found," and none of the Apple/Brother recommendations fixed it. Followed your advice and BINGO, AirPrint is up and working. Thank you for sparing me a Brother help call!

I'm having the same problem with my brother laser and ios 7. The workaround for me is to manually wake the printer. Then everything works fine, until the next time it goes to sleep. This worked fine with ios 6.

I had the same issue with my Brother HL-3170CDW.

After hours of troubleshooting, and after trolling the support site, I couldnt find a solution. On a hunch, I deleted the home network from my IPAD and I also deleted my manual setting for my DNS. Then rejoined my home network then the printer showed back up on the IPAD! It prints wonderfully too.

Okay, so I recently bought the MFC-9340CDW and it has the same problem that you describe. I tried the solution suggested above - forget and reattach the mobile device to the home NW - it has no effect.

Tapping the printer to turn on always works, but its not convenient. I found a way to wake up the Airprint interface of the printer if you get a 'No airprint printers found' error on your IOS device. As I wrote in detail here a part of my review:

The solution: Bookmark the following page in your mobile browser

If you try and print a document and Airprint says "No printer found", just load up this page in your browser bookmark from your mobile device. Loading this page seems to wake up the Airprint interface and now try to find the printer again - it will work. If it did not , make sure you refresh that page linked above.

I was having this problem with a newly purchased Brother laser printer and used nubilemobile's solution for the iPad. Not a very elegant solution though.

However, this appears to be an Apple problem, not a Brother problem. Google Cloud Print from an Android phone finds the printer even when it is in deep sleep. Maybe the protocol doesn't include a command to wake the printer from deep sleep.

Same here, I have purchased a Brother DCP-9020CDW and experience the exact same problem. "No AirPrint Printers Found" until I wake up the printer. From time to time, especially when I restart my iPhone it can find the printer even it is on sleep mode, but most of the time it doesn't work. It seems to be an iOS 7 problem, since with my first generation iPad that runs iOS 5.1.1 it works flawlessly.

Interesting however, that it seems only to happen with Brother printers…

Many thanks for this workaround. I have recently purchased a Brother HL-3140CW, and it is very hit and miss as to whether I receive the "No airplay printer found" message. Sometimes I will find the printer no problem, other times I will not. The printer is in "Deep sleep" mode.

Your workaround definitely does the job, but it's obviously extremely frustrating to have the problem in the first place. It also adds an extra step to what should be a very simple process for my (non tech savvy) parents to learn.

I have experienced the problem on an iPhone 5S (iOS 7.1) and an iPad mini (also 7.1). I am unable to test on an Android device, so personally I'm unable to point the finger squarely at Apple as in the case of js2345.

I do have an old iPhone 3GS, which is running iOS 6.1.6. However, I'm not sure this is much use for testing, as even when my 5S is connecting to the printer OK (i.e. I do NOT receive the "No airplay printer found" message), the iPhone 3GS cannot connect. I find this strange, since lemon-kun mentioned above being able to successfully connect with an iPad running an older version of iOS... 5.1.1 compared to my 6.1.6. Is it device specific rather than OS specific as to whether airplay devices can be connected to?
