In principle your software license lets you install on one computer. This is assuming you have bought CS5 on DVDs. I am not sure what the rule is if you have contributed to Adobe online service.
The answer will be in the product's End User License Agreement. Does it allow you to install it on more than one device? Did you buy more than one license?
Have a nice day.
You will have to uninstall CS5 on one machine and install it on the other before it will run. This is enforced by Adobe's registration software. To have it active on both machines, you will have to purchase a second license.
I know for a fact, at least for Photoshop, that the single
user license permits the license holder to install a copy
on one desktop computer and one mobile computer that
the license holder owns. This was true for PS CS5 as
well as PS CS6. The activation process will fail for
any attempt to install beyond the two devices unless
one of the previous devices is deactivated.
I have the same copy of PS CS6 on both my Mini Server
and my Macbook Pro, both of which are officially activated
by the Adobe license servers. When replacing one of my
HDD with an SSD on my Mini, I needed to deactivate the
version on my original HDD and then reactivate on the SSD.
The other thing to, is the activated license is somehow tied to
both the boot volume and like the computer hardware as well.
Example, you cannot create a clone, boot it, and run Photoshop
on it. You also, cannot boot to an external drive or even another
internal volume and run PS on another volume, unless it was
activated that way.
FWIW, direct from the Photoshop license:
2.1.3 Portable or Home Computer Use. Subject to the restrictions set forth in Section 2.1.4, the
primary user of the Computer on which the Software is installed under Section 2.1 (“Primary User”)
may install a second copy of the Software for his or her exclusive use on either a portable Computer
or a Computer located at his or her home, provided that the Software on the portable or home
Computer is not used at the same time as the Software on the primary Computer.
Forgot to mention, that the same license is linked on the
Adobe page whether Creative Suite, Photoshop, etc.
is selected.
Bottom line, if restrictions followed in the previous post followed,
you DO NOT need another license.
woodmeister50 is right.
As a long time Adobe forums member I can tell you that you ARE allowed to install your paid licensed software on TWO (2) systems. (ie: home and work, desktop and laptop).
You ARE NOT allowed to install it on more than that WITHOUT de-authorizing one of the other systems FIRST.
Additionally, you ARE NOT allowed (although most people still do) to run it on both systems at once, like having your laptop on the desk with Photoshop open on it and your desktop system.
