I have a similar situation as you. I used Flagged messages for business using Mail on my Mac Air (Lion). Then, as the messages were answered the numbers reduced over time. Now, I have no messages in the Flagged folder on my phone, yet the number 1 appears to indicate that there is one. All Flagged messages in my synced email from business have been completed and no more messages are flagged. However, 1 still appears alonside my Flagged folder on the phone. How to get rid of this?

After updating my iPhone 4S to IOS 7, I have had issues with my iPhone. I have 4,619 FLAGGED items on my iPhone, but I do not have any FLAGGED items on my iPad. I have tried to delete them using suggestions in the Apple discussions, but have been unsuccessful. First, let me say that I do not flag my emails unless I did it by accident. Also, when I go to INBOX and click EDIT, I get MARK ALL. I click MARK ALL, and all that appears is FLAG, MARK AS READ, and CANCEL. I click FLAG, click EDIT and MARK ALL again. Then my options are UNFLAG, MARK AS READ, and CANCEL. There isn't an option for UNFLAG ALL. Can anyone Help me to get rid of these?

Go to INBOX and click EDIT. Select Mark ALL. Then click FLAG, because this will flag all of your messages (even those embedded in the same SUBJECT in your messages). Then, click EDIT and click UNREAD. This will give you all of your messages with a double circle (indicating they are both unread and flagged). Then click EDIT and click UNFLAG. And Finally, click EDIT and click READ. This will address every email message you have and clear all the indicators. Then close this process and watch as the numbers (based on the email provider) reduce or dissappear. Some providers like GMAIL take a minute or two, depending on the number of messages you have.

By doing so, I have answered my own question above.

When you click on MAIL, you will see all of your mail accounts and the number of messages still unread in these email accounts. You should also see the number of FLAGGED messages. Above the accounts there should be the INBOX. This is the INBOX I am referring to. This INBOX lists all of your messages regardless of email account. Then, follow the instructions I gave to 1wildwoman2, above.

Hi,

Your directions for the ghost flagged emails does not work for my MacBook Pro. When I click on INBOX, and EDIT, there is no choice for MARK ALL, etc. Can you help with this? I am running OS X, Version 10.9

Many thanks! This is really bugging me! I unflag and delete items in my flagged folders, but the folder does n ot show a subsequent decrease in the number of flagged mails.

If you use Flagged messages, you have a great problem. If you do not flag any messages and want to rid yourself of flagged messages, on your phone, open messages. Then click Edit on the top right of your screen. This will expose all of the accounts you have, as well as VIP and Flagged. Uncheck the Flagged Mailbox (and the VIP, if you like) and your Flagged messages will disappear.

I am assuming that you went through the original process I recommended earlier in this discussion.
