Sep 24, 2013 9:55 AM in response to icu4uciby Roger Wilmut1,★HelpfulAre you an ex-MobileMe subscriber who has had extra free storage since last year? This expires on 30 September and if you wish to revert to the free 5GB level you need do nothing: it will disappear at that point.
If this is not your situation, please give more details.

Nov 10, 2013 4:41 AM in response to icu4uciby kverm,I have the same problem! I am not a ex-MobileMe subscriber. It will let me upgrade but not downgrade. Now why would that be?! At least my credit card expires soon so they can't force me to buy something i don't want. I just turned icloud backup off, i can live without it! Let me know if you figure it out.

Nov 10, 2013 4:57 AM in response to kvermby Roger Wilmut1,On a Mac:
- Choose Apple () menu > System Preferences, then click iCloud.
- Click Manage in the lower-right corner.
- Click Change Storage Plan in the upper-right corner.
- Click Downgrade Options.
- Enter your Apple ID password, then click Manage.
- Choose a different plan to use when your current storage plan expires.
- Click Done.
When you request a downgrade, it will take effect on the anniversary when your storage upgrade was purchased.

If this is what you are doing, what exactly happens (or doesn't happen)?

Nov 10, 2013 5:31 AM in response to Roger Wilmut1by kverm,I have a windows computer (vista). I tried twice to install the icloud control panel but it crashed my computer. I went to my account on my windows pc but it wanted me to install something in order to change my account. Not even going to try that again. I've been trying to downgade on my ipad but it just won't let me do it. my account expires on 12-15. The done button is grayed out and my account still shows 20gb. I would like to keep my account so i can buy music on itunes and apps at the app store but it's not worth all this trouble. I only use about 4gb on my ipad backup and I have never used it. It seems the only solution for me is to just let the account expire.

Nov 10, 2013 8:06 AM in response to kvermby Roger Wilmut1,Firstly, the account won't expire whatever you do - iCloud accounts themselves don't expire; and your ID login to the iTunes Store actually has nothing to do with iCloud (they can perfectly well be different) so that isn't going to expire either.
If you have purchased extra storage then it will automatically renew using the credit card entered in the iTunes Store - of course if you remove that there will be an error message.
You can't downgrade on the iCloud website, which is why you are being asked to install the iCloud Control Panel. You should be able to downgrade using your iPad:
- Choose Apple () menu > System Preferences, then click iCloud.
- Click Manage in the lower-right corner.
- Click Change Storage Plan in the upper-right corner.
- Click Downgrade Options.
- Enter your Apple ID password, then click Manage.
- Choose a different plan to use when your current storage plan expires.
- Click Done.
Make sure you are following those instructions correctly (have you been missing the 'Downgrade options' step?).
If you do this and it doesn't work you will need to contact Support. Go to https://getsupport.apple.com ; click 'See all products and services', then ' 'iTunes', and then 'iTunes Store', then 'Purchases, Billing & Redemption'.

Nov 10, 2013 11:10 AM in response to Roger Wilmut1by kverm,None of this is working for me. went to support nothing there to work with. I know my account won't expire, I was referring to my credit card being expired and I'm not putting my new card number in until I get a confirmation that tells me I have been downgraded to a free account. Which means i cannot buy apps or music on my ipad since it uses the same account. so when i recieve an email confirmation that my subscription has been downgraded to a free account I will put in a new credit card number and continue to buy apps and music, but not before!

Jan 1, 2016 10:32 AM in response to Roger Wilmut1by TheJeizon,Having a similar issue. I can follow the steps above but the Done button is grayed out. I made sure to free up space to keep my usage below the free amount thinking that might be the problem, but it still won't let me. Figures. Off to support then.
