Sidebar visible, iPod NOT recognized when connectedby computer or iPod. Researched all day yesterday, got no where. USB ports are working fine, was able to use iPhone 5 with iTunes. Just want to put iPod music on phone. Tried a 2 programs that are suppose to do this and they didn't reconize my iPod either. My cord works to charge the iPod. Suggestions?

If the iPod is not recognized by the computer (the OS) or iTunes, and you use Windows, this document has some advice (click each point to expand the details)

This is the version for Mac

The USB cable may work for power while not working for a data connection (because different pins are used), so if possible, you should rule out faulty cable as the cause by trying a different cable or using that cable with another device. Unfortunately, your iPhone 5 has a Lightning connector.

Is the sidebar itself visible? If the sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.

If the sidebar is visible, but there is no heading DEVICES, that means iTunes is not seeing any device connected. You'll have to do some troubleshooting based on other factors, such as if the iPod is seen by the computer (the OS) but not iTunes, or if the iPod is not recognized at all when connected. You can post back with more details about your situation...
