ios 6 Music Player on ios 7

Is there a wau to get and use the ios 6 music player to run on ios 7? Or is there an app that looks like and gives the functionality of the ios 6 music player. It must work with the built-in itunes downloaded music.

I can not use the ios 7 music player - it doesn't allow me to drill down by genre to just songs of that genre. The ios 6 music player did.

Hi joelirwin,

To browse songs by genre, tap the More... button in the Music app:

Brows and play - iPhone User Guide

Browse your music by playlist, artist, or other category. For other browse options, tap More. Tap any song to play it.

User uploaded file

Tired of tapping More? To rearrange the buttons, tap More, then tap Edit and drag a button onto the one you want to replace.

I hope this helps!

You would figure I would have tried that before posting. Yes I have and it does not work. That is the problem. When you click on genre you will get artists with songs in that genre but when you choose artist, all the albums are displayed - even albums with absolutely no songs having that genre. So the ios 7 player is useless if you want to display only artists and albums of a particular genre (each of my albums have songs with the same genre in the id field for that whole album). The ios 6 player behaved correctly when you drilled down for albums of a particular genre.

Hence, I need to find an app that behaves the same as ios 6's did.

was not looking to be curt - sorry if it came across that way. If someone has come across this, they should have noticed that I have posted the issue in 3 or 4 more discussions and I did not wish to be any more repetitive. I have given up on Apple and am merely looking for another app that behaves as the ios 6 version did.

Same issue for the ios 7 video player. In the current version, they have changed the display so that the default for you video is just the first frame & no text. In ios 6 you got text and a frame to its right. In the ios 7 version if the video is of 'movie' type which is the default you get just the frame. If the video is 'home movie', you get just text and no frame. I am not going to go through all my videos manually changing things to make the iphone happy (as I am both a composer and wedding videographer and need the functionality of both the ios 6 music player and video player. So I am going to also be looking for another video playing app as well.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I hate what they did to the music app. They have limited ways to listen to your music. The only app I can suggest you to that's quick and easy is "Harman Kardon." The only downfall about the app is that you can choose manually what song you want to play. You'll see what I'm talking about once you download it. but you can listen to specifically one genre and on genre only.

I ended up with an app called "Ecoute" which works off the same songs as the builtin player and works correctly and has pretty cool gestures. I'm pretty happy and now ignoring Apple's.

Wish I could say the same thing for the builtin video player which is all messed up IMHO and by default no longer shows text so you end up with a possibly a bunch of black frames and can't tell which is which without selecting them (though you know they are in alphabetical order). The only 'workaround' is to manually change each video property to 'home movie'.

MOST FULLY AGREE !!!

I bought the 128 retina ipad and based my music systems at home on the loaded music played through my ipad on ios 6. Frequently filtered by genre, year, or other criteria on the run which made my dj-ing at home quite nice and confortable specially on gettogethers with friends or family. please note: I know playlists are an alternative, but on a friends gathering i am not going to start creating PLs while listening !! Unfortunatelly all has changed now with the ios7 music app. Terrible!

Why on earth would apple destroy a great working app this way ? steve jobs searched devices and apps which fascinated the end users, You have completely gone the wrong way here, sorry! But unless you improve the app to ios6 standards you will loose more and more adepts. Hints: Give the filter functions relevance and functionality again, and keep the filter active as long as the users wish it. Album pics are disturbing on long lists of songs ! Forget them, unless the user wants it. Never mix artist land albums on filtered lists : neusance ! Proposal, Do a test- and put the old music app (IOS6) on the store, So users have the chance to choose, you would be VERY surprised, i confess: i would be willing to pay for it ! If the price is right . Please do something even if its for the sake of steves memory and his philosophy of user friendlyness.

I was similarly as annoyed by the reductions in features IOS7 introduced to the Music Player.

I found "Lagu (formerly Music+)" in the AppStore and it appears to have most, if not all the IOS6 Music Player features. For example, I was able to go into Genres>Metal>AllAlbums>AllSongs>Shuffle and have the entire genre shuffled. And also all the songs are listed in alphabetical order! Joy!

Also, Lagu is free.
