Outlook Database and Time Machine Backups

MS Office 2004's Outlook, stored all of it's email data in one, evergrowing, contiguous database file (mine was about 5Gb in size)... Unfortunately, when an email was added or deleted from this large database, Time Machine would subsequentally back up the entire database... Over time this would eat up my backup HD's space...

I've been researching, but unable to determine, if the latest version of MS Outlook handles it's database the same way, or if Time Machine is now able to back up individual Outlook emails and not the entire database file...

Thanks for your thoughts!
