    Thanks. The first link seems unreliable as the Logitech C920 is listed and that's the one that my MacBook wouldn't recognise. The second ecamm link looked most promising but unfortunately I can't as yet find a UK supplier for their webcam. I note they also do a FaceTime recorder software which would also be very handy for recording my music lessons. thanks for your help which is putting me on the right track in my search.

    You will have much better luck with third party cameras if you do NOT install any of the software that comes with them. Instead, rely on the software built into OS X to operate them.

     

    One more tip....Always a good practice to take your portable Mac with you when you shop and ask for a demonstration to PROVE that the camera of interest works for you BEFORE YOU BUY!

    What I'm using is the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920.  I agree with the last reply, you can't use the software that comes with most of these products.  Let the OS find the drivers itself.  It's worked with my stuff just fine.
