Please help! I lost most contacts after updating phone with ios 7. I tried seeing if my contacts could be found in iCloud. No luck. How do I recover?

Where did you do your backup prior to updating iOS? Do you sync contacts to a supported application on the computer? You say that you do not sync to iCloud.
Everything was synced to iCloud before, but can't seem to find my most recent contacts even on that. Any suggestions?
When was the last time you did a backup on iCloud? If you did a backup prior to the update, they should be there.
It's been a while. Everything on my calendar would automatically sync. I'm assuming every contact would do the same...
There are individual settings for things in iCloud. If you have it set to backup via wifi, it should be backing up regularly if you connect the phone to power at night and wifi, it would do that every night. If you had not been doing that, then what you find in iCloud is all you have.

I'm guessing it would have to do with settings, but I don't use iCloud. How often do you check the contents of iCloud? Did you have it set to sync your contacts, and if yes, did you verify that it was. I suggest reading up on iCloud in the User Guide to make sure you have your settings set correctly. My phone says my contacts should have been synced to icloud contacts, but as you know, it hasn't been doing so. I wasn't checking to confirm because of my settings before I updated to IOS 7. Any suggestions on how to recover?
Depending on how long ago your backup was, you can try to restore from a backup. However, everything done since that backup would be lost. Up to you, as that is the best you can do to recover.

I have an ipad 2 and loose my contacts and reminders every couple of days. Only way to get them back is to restart. Extremely irritating. Please fix!
Yes the entire thing got messed up. My wife gets my moms facetimes, I get my son's texts on my iTouch, it is all screwed up.
I had the same problem on my iPhone 4s this morning. The only contact I had left was myself! After resisting the urge to smash the phone against the wall I eventually got everything back by importing from the sim card (hadn't backed up to icloud/itunes for a very long time.) Everything is ok now.
Apple should warn that some upgrades are destructive, or is this just another ploy to draw us into using their services??
