The Calendar icon on my dock has a big number 1. I assume this might mean I have an invitation to accept, buy I do not know of any. How do I delete this number 1 or find the unaccepted invite?

I finally found the unaccepted invitation, but it was a long hunt as I have many Calendar items. Is there an easy way to find an unaccepted Calendar item in OX 10.8.5 Mountain Lion? I found it by using my iPhone with iOS 7 and in Calendar I tounched the Inbox icon.
After reading this I did a Help to find where the notifications icon is. I checked it and found an invitation was there. I remember seeing that popping up with a message earlier today, but couldn't figure out what the "Bonjour" being referred to was. Now in iCal, I saw a name associated to it, which I did not recognize.
What I wanted was to find out what the **** it was, but failed, so I just deleted it from iCal once I found the incomprehensible notification icon.
Oh, I had to reboot to get my iCal icon back to normal.
Not sure if you've since found, but when you have an unanswered invitation a little 'drawer' type icon appears toward the top left, next to the 'Calendars' and plus sign (quick entry) buttons.
That lists all your notifications (I think).

Thanks Marc - that did the trick!
I found that there was an event happening in one of my apps. Once I check that off, it disappeared without having to restart the phone.
