Q: I was prompted to update to ios7 so I did as usual. But this update has made my ipad a piece of junk. I am unable to access Siri, I can't read the faint print particularly those tiny letters on the top row which show the visited websites, etc.

I updated to iOS 7  last might after being prompted by Apple. This caused me to lose many useful features of my iPad2. First I find that Siri has disappeared. When I contacted Apple support, the guy who took my serial # and model # verified things on his end and said emphatically that I should have Siri, but could't help me find it. Another rep simply disconnected me after seeing that she was unable to help me with the problems. After wasting hours with these people and waiting several minutes for their promised supervisor to come online, I was again disconnected by them. My second major problem I wanted solved was the hard to read fine and faint print. I don't have good eyes and with iOS 7 on my iPad2 I am now unable to read the top row which has the list of websites in avery faint and fine print. I could read everything on my iPad until yesterday evening when I made the mistake of updating to iOS7. Till yesterday evening I loved my iPad but after that update to iOS 7 last night it is a piece of junk for me. Hope there is help somewhere out there to restore  Siri and other useful features of iOS 6 or get iOS6 back on my ipad So I can use it again. The chat with apple support has not helped at all as they themselves did not know that Problems like the ones I mentioned to them even existed with this iOS 7. I want my iOS 6 back!!!! CAN ANY ONE HELP !!!!! Also how can I reach anyone in Apple who is knowledgable and also has some authority to do something about it.

Outside of the contact number for that you've already used I don't know another way of direct contact. Here are some things that they may or may not of had you try that might help you. If you will go to the settings app and pick general on the right-hand side you will see accessibility. Within that you can adjust a text size make the text bowl you can also increase the contrast. You can also adjust the brightness and control panel.

As for Siri again in the settings app under general you should see Siri on the right-hand side with the switch to turn it on. If that is turned on and you're still having issues

    Try a Restart.

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

     Resetting your settings

You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.

    Resetting your device

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.

Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.

Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

    Hi disappointedbyapple,

Sorry to hear you're having problems with iOS 7, but if you're truly using a 2nd Gen iPad (iPad 2), then Siri was never present on your device, nor is it now with iOS 7, nor is it planned to be. Won't be long before our iPad 2's are no longer included for updates, and it will be time to replace/upgrade the devices themselves.

You can review more about this in this other Support forum thread:

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4911713?start=0&tstart=0

Why any Apple Support person would tell you that you should be able to find Siri on an iPad2 is beyond me.

Further, its surprising that you received such bad service over the phone. Perhaps I've just been very lucky, but the support I've received thus far when calling or emailing them has been very good.

As for downgrading back to iOS 6, that is not possible. At least, not without jailbreaking your device.

As for the print being harder to read - here's a link that will walk you through the steps to make your Fonts "bold", which should help you out a lot:

    http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/20/ios-7-font-hard-to-read-fix/

Hope your experience with iOS 7 gets better.

    Good luck.

    Hi CrankyJinVT,

Thanks so much for your reply. I tried your link which suggests making the print bold which was helpful, but it didn't work nicely for me as it made the letters kind of fuzzy and not sharp.

I have a 3rd generation iPad so I had Siri on it and it was totally missing on update to IOS 7.  Several days later I found a smart and patient Apple support rep. named Tyler Mullins who guided me through and got Siri back something none of his predecessors could do. But he couldn't help with the faint print which is a defect in IOS7, and I still struggle with it. Hope apple will realize that it was a stupid idea to blend the print with the background and will soon make a change for better readability for all and not just cater to people with good eyesight.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Hi Gus2259,

Thanks for the helpful information. Siri was nowhere visible in the settings after update to IOS7 and that's what puzzled all the Apple support reps who wasted their effort and hours of my time while I waited on the phone for them to confer with their colleagues on this. Few days later I finally found a rep named TyLer Mullins who was really smart and confident that he will get Siri back for me. (My iPad2 is 3rd generation.) He guided me through the process of resetting the ipad (which is what you suggested to me) and that brought back Siri in the menu of the settings and from there we modified it's properties.

Readability of the light print is still a problem. Tyler tried to help me enhance the print but it is a defect that only apple can fix.  Hopefully Apple will improve this feature soon.

    Thanks again.

    Hi Bez-uk,

I was asked to reset all settings. Exactly what Gus2259 above had suggested. I will quote from Gus2259:

    "Resetting your settings

You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again."

In the last step here make sure you choose "Reset all settings" and you will not lose any data in your other apps such as Notes and Contacts... Just below that option is 'Erase all contents and settings" so be careful not to touch that.

You will be thrilled to get your Siri back. It will appear in the Generals after you reset the ipad. Do you have ipad2 also?

Thankyou very much for your reply

Yes I do have an iPad 2 and will certainly give this a try

If you have an iPad 2, you do not have Siri. No amount of looking will change that.

    Best of luck.
