Server Unresponsive

Hello! Ever since we've been traveling out of the country (USA), we have not been able to update itunes. The message, after about 30 seconds, is something like "System server unresponsive" ... We are currently in Indonesia.

So now we are stuck with the newest version of the itouch but cannot connect it to itunes any more!! (itunes version 11.1 is necessary)

Any advice?? Even an explanation would be terrific since we are not computer-savvy 😊

Should we uninstall/reinstall?
