Getting the "cannot get mail, password is incorrect" message with my AOL account only. Could this have something to  do with the iOS 7 update? When I log into my mail through safari it's fine, and I deleted it from my phone and went to go add it back but now I can't because it keeps telling me my password, which is correct, is incorrect. Has anyone else had this issue since iOS 7? How can I fix it?

Try changing the password on the AOL web site and then using the new password on your iPhone.

This has been happening to my iphone 4S running iOS7 for the past week. It didn't start until at least 3 weeks after I upgraded to iOS7.

I tried retyping the same password into the settings for Gmail on my iPhone, and it worked . . . for a day or two. Now back to the same problem. I don't have this problem on my Mac running Mavericks.

This seems to be an iOS 7 problem . . . not the only one, though. I also have a problem with quick and non-linear discharge of the battery. It will go from 20% remaining to 1% and shut itself off within a very short period of sitting idle with the screen off, bluetooth off, location settings almost all off, and all the other "battery saving" tips in use. I can't trust the "charge remaining" any more - I've had the phone go dead unexpectedly when it would have lasted a few more hours in standby before upgrading to iOS7.

I hate to say it but this latest version of iOS7 brings a song to mindm - "It's beginning to feel a lot like Windows" - for its general bugginess.

I get the same message for any of my aol email addresses on both my iphone & Macs.  Nothing has resolved it, from changing to new passwords on the proper sites, to shuttting mail down, restarting computer....nothing!

    HELP!

Solved by deleting account and reinstating with same email name and address but with new password. Best of luck!

I also get the message on both my iPhone and iPad "incorrect password". I type in the password again and the issue goes away. Sometimes it comes back in minutes, sometimes a few weeks go by before the issue returns.

This has been going on since I acquire the iPhone and iPad - about six months.

    Any suggestions?

Logon to aol using a browser and attempt to enter what you think the password should be.  You may see that the account is temporarily suspended due to 'suspicious activity.'  AOL will prompt you to change your account password.  Use the new password in your iPhone email settings.

I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 7.0.6 and mine just started the "incorrect" AOL password deal yesterday. I changed to a new password in AOL yesterday and updated all my devices and it worked for a day. Started getting the error message again today and tried the password change again on AOL but it did not work this time. Had to delete the AOL mail account on the iPhone and reload. It's working now - we'll see for how long.

Downloaded iOS7 last night and I am having the same issue. This is with my Zimbra account. Has a fix been found yet?

I have had issues of "password incorrect" and mail not being sent, after doing the latest IOS 8 update to both my iPhone and iPad.  I tired all the different suggestions I found (deleting and re-adding my AOL account, changing my password, etc) and nothing fixed it until now!  While searching around for a solution, I happened upon a post from someone.  I tried doing this to all three of my AOL email accounts (on both my iPhone and iPad) and now it works great!  Here what that post said to do:

"1. Set up your AOL account(s) using the AOL option

    2. Go into each AOL account(s) and under the "Outgoing Mail Server" section, press the SMTP entry

    3. Set the "Primary Server" to "Off"

    4. Press "Add Server" and provide the following information in the "Outgoing Mail Server" section

        a. Host Name - type in:  smtp.aol.com

        b. User name - type in your user name WITHOUT the "@aol.com" - that was the problem/change!

        c. Password - type in your password

        d. Use SSL - On

        e. Authentication - Password

        f. Server Port - 587 (mine automatically set it to port 587)

After you enter in the above info, the Primary Server will still be set to OFF, but the new server you set will be set to ON, just doesn't show up in the Primary Server section.  Be sure to do the above steps for each one of your AOL accounts (if you have multiples ones).

Apparently, in the main AOL Account Information section you need to use your user name and the "@aol.com", but you need to leave the "@aol.com" out of the SMTP.  However, the Primary Server has that whole section grayed out so you need to ignore that one and create another one."

Good luck!  Worked for me and now I am as happy as a Lamb!!
