I use Google Calendar for appointments and events...I have the Google Calendar in my Iphone 5 and ios7. However in the Notification center
when swiping down, the calendar that comes up in the standard iphone calendar and not my google calendar so I get no appointments or events
in the notificaiton center. Is there a way to make the notification center use my google calendar or a way to sync my google calendar into the iphone

Hello, and sorry for the wait!
Go into settings then 'Mail, Contacts and Calendars' and add your google account here. Turn calendar on, and it your Google appointments should show up in the iOS calendar and Notification Centre.

If you didn't ever get this sorted, you need to go to the sync select menu on google's website (https://www.google.com/calendar/syncselect.). Interestingly, it also sorted out my issue that iCal wouldn't show delegate information on my calendar widget in notification center on my Mac.
