My MBP CD Rom is acting weird

hello,

I have an early 2011 MBP 13" with OS X 10.8.4, my cd rom is acting weird it always rejecting any dvd that i insert in it and read normal cd as black even though they already contain stuff and the weirdest thing that it reads cds that contain drivers that come with printers and modems basically any thing like that no matter how old it is or its condition is and that is driving me crazy i don't think that it is broken because it can read some cds perfectly, so if anyone has had any thing like that before and was able to fix it or any help would be great cause i need my cd rom for my work.

Thanks

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

Sometimes a good lens cleaning will restore full functionality to an optical drive.

Try a DVD cleaning disk.

Send a few shots of compressed air into the slot.

Take a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglasses cleaning cloth) and wrap it around a business card and gently insert it into the slot.

Ciao.

rejects ANY DVD, but can read some CD, = dirty LED laser lens on superdrive.

The superdrive in your Mac doesnt differentiate information (drivers VS movies VS music etc.)...It either sees the data or doesnt

Errors can occur when:

1. on the nature of the tracks (huge on CD or small on DVD) the LED laser has to read from

2. OR the nature of the reflective media in the write layer and the reflective backing (many many brands of cyano-layered DVD and CDs).

There is NO DVD/CD player/burner than can read from the plethora of oddball blank media that has been writen to.

IF:

A: it can read any commercial CD ok.....but no commercial factory DVD (movie) = dirty lens

B: its rejecting certain home-writen CDs/DVDs but not others = unrecognized Cyano-track and reflective layer (also indicates dirty lens and/or media read problem)

C: if its ejecting CD or DVD randomly AFTER insertion, ....then the loader is likely going bad inside the superdrive,..... a somewhat complex mechanism in fact.
