Q: I Upgraded to 10.8.5 but  the epson perfection scan 1670  is not supported. Where I can find a driver?

I upgraded to the latest mountain Lion but my Epson perfection 1670 scan is no longer supported. I have also an HP scan but it's not like my beloved Epson! I went to the Epson site but the only thing they sad is that I have to look for an upgrade at the app store. The app store displays that there isn't any upgrade to do. The Epson support says I have to look for the ICA Image Capture Architecture of Apple...

I have no idea what is that ICA, anyway anybody knows where I can find it and download it form make my scan work?

Hope you can help.

Apples Image Capture should work your scanner. Turn your scanner on and go to your Applications Folder/Image Capture.

Open Image Capture and your scanner should show up in the Image Capture Sidebar

Image capture doesn't work. It works with the HP but not with the Epson. There is an error message: scanner has reported an error.

Before I used the Epson scan application but now If I try to open it a message says that Power PC applications ar no longer supported with this operating system.

The scanner driver you have must be for Power PC computers (IBM processors) and are not supported. Software Update must not be able to upgrade the Power PC scan driver.

The Epson Support page shows there is a driver available for OS X 10.8 and seems to be only available via OS X Software Update. No download option via Epson.

I did yesterday what you are suggesting now.  I followed the epson istructions but the App store says there are no upgrades at the moment and the image capture say: there is an arror while scanning.

So after all this I think I have to buy a new scanner...

There may be a way of deleting some of the scanner software that would allow Software Update to recognize there is an update for the 10.8 driver. BUT, I wouldn't be confident telling you what to trash and what not to because scanner software seems to be all over the place in the System.

If you wanted to try something simple to see if it would trick Software Update, you could go into your User Folder Library and trash all the Preferences for Epson. Restart and run Software Update.

I have the same problem. The latest update broke my Epson Perfection 1670 scanner. Image Capture would say that it is warming up and eventually would give me an error. It happened immediately after the 10.8.5 update, so I know it was the driver.

Here is how I got my scanner to work again:

Go to this folder (shift-command-G from the FInder):

    /Library/Image Capture/Devices/

Look for a file called "EPSON Scanner". The new one is version 5.6.0.  This one DOES NOT work.

I went to another computer that I did not update and looked for the same file. The old version that still works is 5.3.12.

I deleted the new version and copied the old one inside that folder.

Presto. My scanner is working again.
