Is there any way to rename CONNECT TO SERVER favorites with specific names?

Instead of having 10 IP addresses in a list, is there a hidden OS X or 3rd party solution that can rename the addresses to something easily identifiable like KENS_DRIVE, BOBS_SERVER, SARAS_SANDBOX? I'm looking for a GUI solution for clients who have no Unix or terminal background experience or ability 🙂

Sort of, but not in the Connect to Server window.

You can open TextEdit and type in the pathname to the server in question, then select that text and drag it to the Desktop. This creates an afploc, webloc, etc. file that you can rename.

After that, you can place those files in ~/Library/Favorites and then use the Go->Recent Folders menu to access those links; or you could put them on your Dock or the Desktop if you have room. Not exactly the solution you were looking for, but it does work.

Hope this helps,

Mulder
