Mac iMessages immediately fail to send

I have tried everything I could find online, but nothing hass worked. When I try to send a message from my Mac, it immediately fails to send. And when I have a discussion open with someone who is iMessaging me, it shows the "..." when they are typing, but nothing comes through. I had beta iMessage, and that worked most of the time, but since Mountain Lion, it's been a failure. However, iMessage does work perfectly on my guest account for some reason. What can I do to fix this?

Humm,

We have done everything that should have sorted a User side regarding the app and it's .plists

As it works in the Guest we need to consider other User only items.

Can you launch Keychain Access from Applications/Utilities

In the App's won Menu use the Keychain First Aid and see if there are any issues.

If there are not delete the Auth tokens linked to the Apple ID for iMessages whilst the app is closed down.

These should be recreated when the app is restarted.

It is late (again) where I am and it will be a while before I am back.

No luck with deleting the authorization token, and keychain first aid didn't find any issues.

One more thing I forgot happens is that if I have an iMessage conversation open on my Mac and I'm having a conversation with that person on my phone, when they are typing I can see the (...) bubble come up, but no message ever comes through.

Hi,

In the View Menu > Messages can you change the style from Balloons to any of the other two.

iChat and Messages 7.x.x. have both shown issues with the plugin that displays text in the Balloon style.

The only fix to this that I know of is to Reinstall the OS as the app comes with the OS and since iChat 6 came out there has been no way to separately install the App itself.

I also cannot send messages since upgrading to Mavericks. It logs in fine, and I get an alert on my phone saying my iMac is using the phone number and email addresses. Facetime works. iMessage DOES work under guest account.

I have tried every single step you have outlined here (numerous times just to be sure) and I just get a red exclamation point. I click it and "Try Again" and it just fails again.

I would love to find a resolution tothis one. I upgraded my Macbook Air and iMessages work just fine there as well.

Hi,

Can you open the Console app (Applications/Utilities) and see if there is any item about a Certificate issue at the time the iMessage is sent ?

Hi,

That item is shown to be running in the Activity Monitor

There is a .plist for both FaceTime and iMessages relating to IDS.

The iMessages one looks like this

com.apple.imservice.ids.iMessage.plist

You could try deleting this.

It may also pay to launch the Keychain Access app and look at the System keychain. (most likely the Certificates)

Some people are reporting success in resetting the keychain

I believe I am in the same boat here as I too am not able to send messages from my desktop. I am using Mavericks with all the latest updates applied.

I have done the same things as mentioned here.

Pulbic DNS

Remove all the plists related to imagent, imesage and facetime

I have repaired the Keychain and Reset the Keychain

Here is what I am seeing in the console when sending or receiveing messages in imessages. I replaced only the email address in the logs

If you need me to start a new thread that is fine, but they seemed related and I have yet been unable to find a solution.

HI,

In Messages go to the Preferences > Accounts and in the iMessages account use the Details button

Confirm your Apple ID password.

It should then show you a drop down pane that has the Apple ID and the password with a verification box.

At the bottom it should have your country listed.

If it does not then select a country.

In the Contacts App check your details are the My Card.

If not then highlight your details and use th Card Menu > Make this the My Card.

Ok i just went in and confirmed my password and id as well as country. All is good there.

I also setup my card.

I still have the same issues not being able to send email. Here is the latest from the console, there appears to be a little more about "No cert found". Email addresses made anonymous.

Hi,

In the Keychain Access and then the Login Keychain do you list the Auth tokens for FaceTime and iMessages ?

It should start "ids service/app yourappleid-Auth Token"

I am not sure why it says it is registered but then is not finding the certificate.

Well I finally just resolved it. I found a clue here:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5140777?answerId=22376098022#22376098022

There is a reference to the same error regarding the cert issue. That didn't completely resolve it though, because there was still another facetime error I was still getting. I was able to delete the facetime key from Key Access. Then start facetime, logout and log back in.

Now i am getting messages and the errors are gone. Hopefully this helps someone else.
