No, it doesn't.  Restore puts the most up-to-date iOS on your device.  Period.

(Unless you have used a non-Apple approved method of using iTunes.)

To work around the issue, I plan to use Find My Friends to monitor the family/kids on a moments notice.

You would be surprised how often we use Find My iPhone within a family.

The issue I have with FMF, it can be turned off by the user. If not turned back on, it becomes useless.

At this point I would use FMi, assuming the primary account password of that device wasn't changed.

If te primary account on the device password was changed, then the FMi is useless to me in the event of an emergency.

Most of the features I can probably get away with using FMF, but I am mostly concerned about the emergency situations when it's too late to realize a password is no longer valid.

Also, I have other extended family members in my FMF. This means it will ping their locations everytime I just want to see my family. FMi simplified it.

Another point I just thought of.

FMF works by account login, not device. So if I a different account is logged into the device, the FMF device won't show up in my list. Whereas, FMi could only be changed in the settings.

This also means I need different accounts for each device to use FMF.

All these are workable, but they complicate the process that was fine before ios7 changed it.

They are all valid points, I am not arguing any of them with you andyou don't need to justify your reasons.

The fact is that you can no longer use it as you were. I am just trying to offer alternatives.

As far as your children changing Find My Friend settings, they can be locked down in restrictions.

If you haven't looked at them you really should. It is a good way to restrict usage without crippling it altogether.

Settings > General > Restrictions

I came across this thread looking for the same exact thing--I'm looking to downgrade back to iOS 6. If anyone finds a method of doing so, I'd be certainly interested. My wife is sick of iOS 7 and wants to roll back to iOS 6 so I'm hoping to find a way to do it by the weekend.

As an anecdote...

I upgraded two iPad 3s, and iPhone 4 and a 4S to iOS 7 once the notifications started popping up, telling us to upgrade... It seemed like every time I unlocked my phone, a notification to upgrade to iOS 7 kept popping up.

iPhone 4 (my phone): Almost completely unuseable. It's slower than its ever been, and not just by a little. iWork data was frozen until the 7.0.2 update that rolled out a few days ago--I called AppleCare and was told that was the fix for it.

iPhone 4S (wife's phone): Works but she's been having lots of issues with iMessage not functioning consistantly. Also, application data (iWork, apps, etc.) has been inconsistant.

iPad 3s (both): Slow. The whole interface is just slower than it was under iOS 6. I'm sure it's just zippy on the newer iPads but had I have known it was so slow, I would certainly not have "upgraded."

I did see the restrictions which is a good thing to prevent disabling FMF.

I have no choice but to go this route, but I wish Apple would have considered families.

They seem to forget that when they implement features and make changes,

which causes us to find work arounds to get certain functionality and use cases.

I also realized I hi-jacked this thread and that's not cool.

I don't know what you think you did, but 'Restore iPhone' will put the current iOS onto the device.

You may be confusing 'Restore Backup' for 'Restore iPhone'.

No restore backup will keep current iso. RESTORE usind DFU mode Restore,,  your iPhone SHOULD completely restore back to the same setting as when you first bought the iPhone (kissing all your data temporarily). Then once you have done this step restore your backup via itunes,,,,all done.

Not unless Apple has recently stop this. Cause I tried iso7 hated it and restore my iPhone back to USO 6.1.4(10B350) classic.

Yes, the files in question are no longer available.  There was about a 48 hour period when this was possible.  However, that is NOT normal operation, nor is it a supported procedure.

The procedure you described is NOT an Apple approved method.  It is simply the result of a delay of removing access to certain files by certain devices.  If it is an Apple approved method, why doesn't it work today?

Restoring your phone in iTunes WILL put the most current iOS on the device.

For a short time frame, the older .ipsw file is available via 'Restore'.

DFU mode and Recovery mode are two different things.  And just because people use DFU mode for purposes that Apple doesn't intend doesn't mean that Apple supports what they are doing.

I can use a woodaxe to chop down a tree, or to smash in a car window.  That doesn't mean that Acme Axe Manufacturers intend for me to break into cars with their product.

Its not about slowness or looks always.

iOS  7 breaks integration with many devices, and systems

BMW and Apple are advertised partners but iOS7 breaks BMW iDrive office integration, thereby breaking many of the hands free functionality

I wish I had known I could preview it.  I hate my calendar now. Impossible to read most things on the bright, pale, funky screens. Hate it.  Will get rid of iPhone next chance I get.

Have you tried adjusting the font and contrast settings?
Settings > General > Accessibility

From here you can turn on bold font, dynamically increas font size and increase contrast

You can look at all the pictures you want but until you use it yourself you can't really know, can you?
