Evenly spaced dots from emitter (Motion 5)

I have a moving object which uses an emitter to leave behind a single trail of dots.

(The dots are formed from a solid circle of colour).

For the life of me, I can't seem to get the dots evenly spaced - they seem to be in groups of two, three, five, twelve etc but always a gap between the groups.

Help please!
