How to fix imap email issues in iOS7 for the iPhone
It seems a number of people are facing problems with their email, specifically related to imap. Essentially it all started after the iOS7 update. They broke what was already working. We have no idea of knowing when apple will rectify the problem. My guess is they will fix it when the next update releases.....whenever that may be. So in the meantime here are some helpful tips. If you wish to add more tips please do so in this discussion. My imap accounts are with Godaddy, so I'm sharing my method on how I got the accounts to work, but the concept should work with other imap accounts. I'll make the assumption that anyone reading is familiar with the iphone layout & settings, so I don't have to list every single step.
imap email related tips only -
1. Close your mail (swipe it up to remove it from the multitasking mode. Double tap home to enter multitasking mode)
2. Ok so the bad news, if your email is not working properly, then it looks like you have to delete the account. So its your choice if you wish to proceed.
3. After deleting the account, create the imap account again (settings, mail, add account, other etc). Use the settings provided by your imap email provider for the iPhone. It should be listed on their website under support.
4. After the email account is verified and saved, go back into your email settings and select the email account you just created, then scroll to the bottom and select advanced
5. In the advanced page, the top section is mailbox behaviors for Drafts, Sent & Deleted. Tapping each one will show you folders listed in 2 sections 'on my iphone' & 'on the server'. Select the correct choice from the 'on the server' section. This MUST match the folder name used by your imap email provider. If your not sure which one is correct, then simply log into your imap webmail account and look at the exact names used for each folder. For example some providers call their sent folder "Sent", some call it "Sent Items". For deleted items (it could be called trash). Drafts most likely will be called drafts. Doing all this is needed to make sure your imap account is syncing correctly with the right folders.
6. Once all the correct selections are completed, tap the back button (top left) & then tap 'Done' (top right).
This process worked for me, hopefully this should fix your imap email problems or resolve most issues. Cheers.
