hi people

can someone tell me how to add a percentage to the price of a item?


im trying to create a price list for a new business venture and any help would really be appreciated...



im trying to add 20% to B2 and have it displayed in D2 hopefully.

i hope the screen shot helps you understand.

You will want to use the formuls


D2=B2*1.2

you can also write the formula like this:


you have an amount, X, which you would like to inflate by some percentage, P.


* is the same as multiply


100% of X is X

inflating X by 20% is the same as adding X to 20% of X


20% of X is X * (20 / 100)


so X inflated by 20% is X + X * (20/100)



this is the same as X *(100/100) + X*(20/100)


if you factor this you get:

X *(100+20)/100 which is the same as X * 1.2
