Thunderbolt DVI Adapter Logs User Out

I have a 2013 MBA. When I plug it on to an external display using an Apple Thunderbolt -> DVI adapter, whoever is logged in gets logged out almost immediately. The 2013 replaced a 2012 MBA, which didn't have this issue.

Plugging into a 27" Apple Thunderbolt display works jsut fine.

Anyone else? All firmware is current.

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Update:

If I'm currently logged in, it borks out. However, if I've gone to screen lock (I need to use my password to get back in), it doesn't bork out. It comes up just like I'd expect.
