WHy am I getting e-mails threatening to reduce 5GBs when Tech tells me I'm set up for paid auto-renewalor 20GBs. I keep getting the e-mail that on Sept. 30 I'm going down to 5 GBs. Whassup, Apple?

I am on my third day with phone support and really frustrated. I get daily e-mails saying my free I Cloud 20 GB program (I was a Mobile Me customer so I wasn't paying a LOT of attention when the shift to ICLoud happened; my address stayed me. com) will be reduced to 5 GBs unless I pay for 20 GBs!

I clicked on the article for info. I went ito my settings - saw it says I have 20 GBs. No place to auto-renew from there. Okay, I call: I'm told it was a problem that my auto-renewal wasn't on. Okay, after that I assumed it was on. My billing info is current. I made sure "Sign me up, I want 20 GBs" was known. I was taken through the ITUnes purchase process for it. Today I get the same e-mail - reduction to 5 GBs Sept. 30 bcause I haven't taken action. My ITunes store account says no purchases have been made in 90 days. But doesn't show ICloud storage as being something you can purchase from that page.

Apple used to be so clear and user-friendly. I'm so sorry to see this. Maybe it's my fault, something I'm doing, but if so, two techs haven't been able to tell me what I'm doing wrong and what they've done to correct the problem hasn't worked!!!!

It sounds as if you haven't in fact bought any additional storage. What you need to do, fairly promptly, is to purchase to continue your current plan.

says:

  1. Choose Apple () menu > System Preferences, then click the iCloud icon.
  2. Click the Manage button.
  3. Click Change Storage Plan.
  4. Click Downgrade Options.
  5. Enter your Apple ID password, then click Manage.

At this point you can check your status. If you have not purchased additional storage (and thus over-ridden the free storage) the date it will expire will be shown ad 30 September:

If that is the case, select the current plan and click 'Done'. You will be charged for it as from the end of this month.

If you have in fact already bought additional storage then that will show as renewing automatically and you need take no further action and can ignore the automated emails).

Your signature says you have 10.6.8 - I assume this is not in fact the case as there is no iCloud preference pane in System Preferences and you do say you went into settings. (It it's not correct please amend it to prevent confusion.)

(If in fact you are on 10.6.8 you will not be able to pay to continue the storage unless you have access to a Mac running Lion or above or an iPhone running iOS 5 or above. If you don't have this access you could book an appointment with a 'Genius' at an Apple Store who would be able to sign into your account on their Mac and do this for you.)

if you want to do this on an iPhone go to this page:

Scroll down to 'How do I purchase my current plan?' and expand the section applicable to iOS.

Note that you have only only five days to do this.
