I got my IPhone 4s fixed at repair shop they replaced the defective part. The question is has anyone had this done and did it last??

I have read for hours several forums and have yet to find out EXACTLY what the problem is. You are the first one to mention the "defective part". What is EXACTLY is the "defective part" that was replaced and how much did you pay. Thank you in advance.

He just called it a wifi chip - cost 40$ he can't guaranty it cause of the IOS issue.

I figured I try it as not sure what to replace phone with as this issue is affecting IPhone 5 and not ready to pay 700$ for 5s

I would gladly pay $40 like you did to fix the WiFi problem but with some warranty. Apple should just try to meet us halfway and provide a viable solution. Please keep us posted on the condition of your WiFi repair.

I had the chip replaced and only lasted 2 weeks - not worth the 40$ unless u fix to sell it.. But that would be wrong

I have had my phone a year.  I downloaded an Apple update a few days ago.  Today my text messaging showed a new message even after I had read and replied to message.  I restarted my phone.  I noticed the WiFi was not working after restart.  I reset Network and reset phone to factory.  Nothing has worked.  Phone is now in the freezer!!  We shall see...

So after 15 minutes in freezer the WiFi button worked.  I was able to insert password to local network and successfully sign on.  Then the phone warmed up and I lost the WiFi again.  I noticed after the Apple update that my phone is now hot all the time and my battery depletes very quickly.  Virus in the update?

That's exactly what I do. Once in the freezer for 10 minutes the wifi works. Once the phone warms up the wifi stops working. I doubt people who live in cold weather have this problem. :)

Same issue here. 4S phone that randomly stopped locating any wi-fi network.  It had not been updated to ios 7.  After the constant battery drain and excess data usage charges, I took it to the Genius Bar.  I was told it may be an issue with the antannea and they would take a look at it, try to tighten the wires and see if it would fix the issue.  The Tech told me that they were unable to fix the wi-fi issue and advised that it must have been dropped causing the wires to move.  I was adamant that the phone was not, and never has been dropped.  The answer I got was 'it must be excessive movement than".  Define excessive?  I was then told the phone was out of warranty and would need to be replaced.  I left the store without a new phone as I needed to discuss with my husband (it was his phone having issues).  When I got home and gave him his phone, it now has a 'vibrating' image on the screen, going into Settings freezes, you can not get into the wi-fi section to shut it off to avoid the battery drain and texts do not send without a hard reset.  I spent 45 mins on hold with Apple last night as the store is 1.5 hours away - one way.  After being disconnected twice, I gave up for the night.  I contacted Apple again this morning, was told it was merely a coincidence that the other issues began after the "service" done by the Tech, had me restore as new to see if the problems continued.  They did.  Now I have to again, restore from the backup and know there will be no changes.  I have literally lost 3 days of my holiday weekend trying to resolve these issues and am frustrated beyond belief.
