Mac book pro not connecting to Apple TV 2

I have a mac book pro and apple tv 2 that I got last year. When I try to stream, the icon for apple tv pops up but when I click on the stream apple tv button it looks like it will connect and my curcer shows that it is loading but it is not connecting. I have updated everything. And it works well but if I try to stream than it will not work.
