imessage

My iphone 5 was stolen and my apple id is still linked to it I logged into icloud and I have removed the device I am currently using my old iphone 4 and am not able to sign in to imessage or facetime I keep getting the message "could not sign in Please check network connections and try again" this problem had been happening for 2 days now
