One interesting thing: iPad works fine while stays cold e.g. just after the freezer or while laying on ice cubes packed in a packet. I've successfully activated and configured my iPad while it stayed cool after freezer. Now I'm watching how it continues to work while it gets warm.

SUMMARY: iOS 7.0.x causes overheating

Hi V74,

Have you been able to complete the Restore process by completing the setup process before it reboots? I saw this issue on my iPad 3 once and once I got past the setup, I went into Settings > Reset All, and the rebooting cycle was corrected. Give that a try if possible. If that fails, do a full Restore from iTunes again. It may be a bit in the firmware didn't get set properly that the firmware verify didn't catch. Can you attached you logs files full directory as per my instructions earlier? I can look through the various logs and see if I can spot what might be off course.

Hi, Kennethyoung

I had been able to complete the Restore process by completing the setup process (when the Apple logo and a progrss bar below are displayed) before iPad have rebooted. But I've managed to do this only after doing a freezer trick: -18^C for 30 minutes. Without it the setup process gets stuck after nearly 60% and iTunes displays error 3.

After the Restore process had completed I've tried to activate iPad, but it was constantly rebooting after 3-4 minutes of work. I'd placed the device to the freezer again and then it has activated without any problem. Cellular module functioned properly too (while the device stayed cool).

I came to a conclusion that there is something wrong with cellular module. To be more specific - overheating due to some reason. So I've turned airplane mode on to disable the module and turned WiFi on manually. Three hours passed and the device works just fine. I did not try to turn airplane mode off in order not to spoil all again.

If you need logs from "iPad Updater Logs" folder, they are already uploaded here. There are only 2 files in the folder - did only 2 attempts to restore.

There is also a plenty of error reports that were sent to Apple by iPad itself automatically.

Hi V74,

You've done a great diagnostic job! I looked through the logs you uploaded. The one from yesterday showed the classic Error 3 issue. The one from today where you successfully Restored doesn't show anything "strange" that jumps out at me that would be firmware related to the celluar modem, but clearly something is happening since if you put the iDevice in Airplane mode, then turn on just the WiFi, the reboot cycle does not occur.

Assuming that the device did not exhibit this behavior before, there are seveal possible sources, but the most likely is the following:

1) The SIM card got a bit "damp" during the Freezer cycle back to a warm room could be the issue.

2) Turn the device fully OFF (hold down Power button until "turn device off" message appears, then slide to OFF).

3) Remove the SIM card, make sure it is dry. Use a hair dry set on WARM (not hot) and blow into the SIM opening on the device for 1 minute. If there is any moisture, it should dry out using this method.

4) Reinsert the SIM card.

5) Turn iDevice ON

6) Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data = ON (Green visible on switch)

Watch and see if it starts to get warm or goe's into the previous reboot cycle. If it does, do a "Hard Reboot" (hold power and Home button fully pressed for ~10 seconds until the screen goes black AND the white Apple Logo appears.

Report back on your results.

Hi folks, just yesterday i can restore my iphone 4 that have a problem when i restore from itunes, when i do the restore from itnes, always showed me the following error:

01:41:37.0017] Depth:0 Error:AMRestorePerformRestoreModeRestoreWithError failed with error: -1

[01:41:37.0017] Depth:1 Error:The operation couldn\U2019t be completed. (AMRestoreErrorDomain error -1 - Failed to handle message type StatusMsg)

[01:41:37.0017] Depth:2 Error:The operation couldn\U2019t be completed. (AMRestoreErrorDomain error -1 - failed to update device firmware)

[01:41:37.0017] Depth:3 Error:The operation couldn\U2019t be completed. (AMRestoreErrorDomain error -1 - ramrod firmware update failed)

[01:41:37.0017] Depth:4 Error:The operation couldn\U2019t be completed. (RamrodErrorDomain error 1004 - update_baseband: failed to perform next stage)

[01:41:37.0017] Depth:5 Error:Exception at :0:

[01:41:37.0017] - kBBUReturnTimedOut(8)/16: Pinging timed out

what I did was this: just when I will finish the process, when the status bar is at the end in the firmware, only put the sim card and go back to take out, I do this like 4 or 5 times and the process restoration ends so well. This method I tried it 2 times and 2 times worked. I spent like 10 hours trying to restore iphone without results, until I started watching the logs and the key is when you are upgrading the firmware sends a command to answer yes. And I hope this helps.

This is the line of the log that appears and when the restoration is correct:

amai: AMAuthInstallBasebandHandleUpdaterStatus: commandAccepted: YES

Regards.

HI VictorMty,

I am not 100 % clear on your steps to work around Error (3), so let me present what I think you did, step by step, and ask to to confirm or correct

1) iDevice is connected to iTunes vis usb cable. Device is ON

2) Turn device OFF (leave connected to usb cable)

3) Remove SIM card

4) Turn Device ON

5) Start Restore process via iTunes on Mac/PC

6) When Progress Bar STOPs for several minutes, positioned about 2/3 way across the screen, insert the SIM card

7) Progress bar then continues and successfully completes with no Error (3)

Is the above correct? Please correct any mistakes in what I think you did.
