Jan 25, 2014 10:15 AM in response to jrvjr1691by kennethyoung,Hi jrvjr1691,
I hope to get an update on their analysis late next week but given Apple general secrecy I don't know if they will tell me or us anything. Best we should hope for is maybe they'll hint and say "Try the next update out".
Have you tried all the techniques in this thread including the freezer technique and meeting with an Apple Genius and shown them this thread? The work-arounds to the "Error 3" issue discussed on this thread have had a fairly good success ratio, but not 100%.

Jan 26, 2014 5:56 PM in response to kennethyoungby iphoneprobz123,kennethyoung, you are a genius. Wrapped phone in paper towels, in ziplock bag with rice, 40 minutes, hooked up to laptop, left in freezer during restore...it worked perfectly. Unfortunately, once restored, my iphone went back to "searching" for a signal...still a giant POS. What a joke.
Thank you nonetheless!

Jan 26, 2014 6:07 PM in response to iphoneprobz123by kennethyoung,Hi iphoneprobz123,
Din't give up yet. You've solved the Error (3) problem.
To solve the "Searching" loop, do the following:
1) go to General > Reset > Reset Network Setting and tap
2) Re-enter your network passwords
"Searching" should be gone. If not do the following:
3) Turn off your phone
4) Remove the SIM card
5) Turn on the phone
6) Re-Insert SIM card
"Searching" should be gone.
If neither of these work, please report back.

Jan 26, 2014 6:15 PM in response to kennethyoungby iphoneprobz123,Performed both of your suggestions...restore network didn't work but SIM card fix seems to be working for the past 5 minutes. However, my wi-fi is still greyed out (this was an original symptom also that prompted the original restore attempt).

Jan 26, 2014 6:27 PM in response to iphoneprobz123by kennethyoung,Hi iphoneprobz123,
OK, we're one step closer.
I've experienced the grayed out WiFi multiple times on 7.0.4 on my iPhone 5. I have not been able to track down any specific action which causes it, but for me both a:
1) "hard reboot" (pressing both the power button and Home button simultaneously until the screen goes black AND the white Apple icon appears, then releasing both buttons, THEN double-checking and making sure WIFi switch is turned on)
2) or doing the "General > Reset > Reset Network Settings", re-entering your WiFi password, worked for me. Remember if you accidentally miss-type you WiFi PW the icon on the top bar will remain grayed out (I've done this more than once myself).
Let me know if either solves the grayed out WiFi for you.

Jan 26, 2014 6:37 PM in response to kennethyoungby iphoneprobz123,Yea, I've tried both those fixes numerous times to no avail...good news is so far the "searching" is gone and I can actually use the phone again...for now.
Thanks for your help!!

Jan 26, 2014 6:57 PM in response to iphoneprobz123by kennethyoung,Hi iphoneprobz123,
Glad to help! I have question and another potential fix For the grayed put WiFi issue I saw elsewhere.
1) Question: look in Settings > WiFi. Make sure the row labelled WiFi has the color Green showing on the switch, indicating that it is on. If it does, turn it "Off", wait 10 seconds, then tap switch again to turn it back on. Now, Do you have a Blue Checkmark next to your network name?
1a) If "No", then your phone is not connected to your network. Tap the "i" icon to the right of your network name. Look at the IP Address, Subnet Mask, etc fields and see if they contain a series of numbers, separated by "periods". If there are no numbers, your iPhone is not "talking" to your home router. This can be due to either your router having failed, or the WiFi chip in the iPhone, or its related firmware having failed.
1b) If "Yes" you have a Blue Checkmark, but the WiFi top bar icon is still grayed out, check this Apple Discussion thread and steps recommended to try and solve

Jan 27, 2014 10:11 PM in response to franzfumeby kennethyoung,Hi franzlume,
Hi All,
Can you please send me the log file located as described below please?
The log file I am looking for is in the following location on your Mac;
~/Library/Logs/iPad Updater Logs (if your Error 3 was on an iPad)
~/Library/Logs/iPhone Updater Logs (if your Error 3 was on an iPhone)
(I'm not sure exactly where the equivalent location is on a PC. Perhaps a PC person can share this info).
There may be a number of files within that folder. Easiest thing is to "Zip" up the entire folder and post a link here to an online folder that can be accessed, such as DropBox or Gdrive.
To Zip/Compress the folder, select the folder name and then right click/two finger click to bring up a pop up menu. About halfway down you will see "Compress iPad/iPhone Updater Logs". Select and follow instructions.
Use the "Insert Link" icon in the "Add Reply" editor to add a link to the external source where you saved this file.
Alternately you can cut and paste the log file in a new Reply in this thread.
