Jun 8, 2014 4:16 PM in response to nmashburnby nmashburn,BTW she is still in Italy and will not return to the states for 5 more weeks, so taking it an Apple store for exchange is not an option at this point.

Jun 8, 2014 4:21 PM in response to nmashburnby kennethyoung,If the "Restore on another computer" doesn't work (it didn't for me or the Apple Genius), or is not an option, go back to page 2 of this discussion and read how I used my "freezer" to solve the "Error (3)" problem on my iPad 3, and try it. Right now you have a "brick" so there really is no downside to my "freezer" fix that worked for me. I would recommend a freezer bag with a paper towel wrapped around 1/2 cup dry rice to minimize any condensation, placed inside the freezer bag (I didn't do this and just had some condensation on the outside, but I do recommend others use a freezer bag). The rice wrapped in the paper towel absorbs much of the moisture.

Jun 8, 2014 4:34 PM in response to nmashburnby kennethyoung,Tell your daughter its time to think outside the box. Have her go to the cafeteria and ask the staff to let her borrow a freezer bag, a paper towel, some rice and a freezer for 30 minutes in order to "save her phone". I can't imsginevthey would refuse such a unique request. Just the act of trying will likely add to her self confidence and give her a great story to share throughout her life - especially if it works (about 75% succeeds rate).

Jun 8, 2014 9:51 PM in response to nmashburnby kristina195,Hi- if her phone is unlocked and covered by Apple Care, she can go to an Apple owned store (like at Porta di Roma) and get a replacement. They can order the US version of the iPhone for her here. That is what I did with mine, which I purchased unlocked from Apple Store in USA, and which is still covered by Apple Care++. I spoke with the manager about my unhappiness with the fact that I am now on my fourth iPhone in 16 months because of defective handsets... He was very understanding. Hopefully if she goes there, she finds someone nice.

Jun 14, 2014 4:21 AM in response to johncali9by Appleolog,As itunes error 1 to 16 is hardware problems.
Probably your itunes update log includes "1: AMRestoreErrorDomain/ffffffff: ramrod firmware update failed" line.
This mean is your baseband chip failuare.
30% of successfully repairment but not warranty.
(This lines For professinals only Use with your own risk, no responsibility.
Find BB chip near of the battery socket from schematics,
375-400 Celcius with lots of flux heat the chip for 45 second max with care of plastic parts.
After cooling down for 5 min. re assembly device. Install firmware in DFU mode)
OtherwiseU have to chance ur mainboard.

Jun 20, 2014 3:17 AM in response to johncali9by xstatix,I dont have any idea why this error 3 have ever happened to me.
Seems like the most common issue here is that the phone is on "Searching Forever" status and for a quick fix you will to restore it and ended up with a brick phone.
My experience also is the same my iP5 is on searching forever status given that it is a factory unlocked phone. It's on 7.1 BTW, So first I tried resetting all the settings same result and i ended up updating my phone to 7.1.1 and hope for a fix the update stuck at 99% and rebooted itself and asking me to connect the phone to iTunes. So i didn't expect that there would be any problem because i already tried and restored my apple products way back so i expect that the restoration would be a breeze but i was end up disappointed ended up with error 3 forever,
Tried kennethyoung freezer fix but no hope I tried it multiple times but still that f*cking error still occur.
i've call apple and they say that they will honor my phone even its out of warranty given that i will give them some $$$ for the fix and sending it back to country where it is purchased so its a much hassle for me so i just rather keep the phone.
But still i dont lose hope..

Jun 24, 2014 2:51 AM in response to kennethyoungby ChrisHristov,Hello ! I have the same problem. I've tried all methods and nothing. I have two iphones. Can you tell me which part of hardware should to be replaced to fix this issue? Thank you !

Jun 24, 2014 3:48 AM in response to ChrisHristovby Appleolog, search the net for iphone(4-4s-5-5s which is ur device) baseband chip or iphone 4 schematics. There is a baseband chip and 2 diode near bb chip(this is my case in I4). do not replace bb chip because of all network information inside of it as encripted and connected with CPU. just try ur chance; heat the chip max 375 degree as celcius with full flux. (all responsibility is yours by the way)

Jun 24, 2014 7:53 PM in response to johncali9by davidumdor,I am also facing similar problems with my iPhone 5C. My device was having the following problems.
a) Contacts Search issue
b) 3G Data issue
c) Mobile Network issue.
I had reset my iPhone so many times. Finally I tried to restore / upgrade my iPhone to 7.1.1 through iTunes. This did not proceed successfully and an error came at around 50%. The message is "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3).

Jun 29, 2014 8:26 PM in response to kennethyoungby NigelMikhail,Kenneth, I tried your freezing method and it worked out brilliantly for me. I set the freezer to -19 degrees Celsius and left it in there for about 15 min, afterwards I restored the phone. I did keep the phone cool during the restore with ice packs. No errors at all.

Jul 2, 2014 7:01 AM in response to kennethyoungby BandOkie,Kenneth,
Had same problem with iPad 3. Restored while in freezer several times. Fix lasted 1 hour to 3 days. I just restored again and updated the iOS to 7.1.2 which I am hoping will solve the problem. I have not seen any posts since he new iOS. What is going on? I have had no problems after watching a movie, restoring all files, and running regular updates. Anyone else try yet?
