I am having the same issue and i'm EXTREMELY frustrated. Worked for the last year, woke up this morning and i keep getting this error over and over. I've entered my correct username and password but it keeps popping up this error. I can receive emails but not send them. This is for outlook for mac 2011.


I can log into icloud and send emails through it, i can send emails through my iphone but not through outlook. ***!!


In typical apple fashion i called them and after being on hold for 30 minutes they tell me it's microsofts problem. I call microsoft and they tell me it will cost me $49 for them to answer my questions. What a royal PITA!! 😠

This procedure was complete for me and it resolve the issue. I supose that the problem is the number 1 below:


1. User name is just the first part of my email address, without the "@me.com" bit.

2. Password, of course

3. Incoming server: imap.me.com, port 993

4. Check "use SSL to connect"; uncheck the other two options under Incoming Server

5. Outgoing server: smtp.mail.me.com; port 587

6. Check override default port

7. Check Use SSL...

8. The "use incoming server info" bit that I wrote about earlier

I had the exact same issue this morning when I got up - quite out of the blue. The above procedure worked for me also, but, to clarify:


  • Under account settings in Outlook, you should navigate to "More Options" under the Outgoing Server settings.
  • Select User Name and Password in the Authentication drop-down (mine was defaulted to "use incoming server settings")
  • Follow the steps show in 1 and 2 above (at the minimum)


This immediately fixed my issue. Why did it happen? No idea, but at least it seems to be working...

Like everyone else, I don't know how this happened in Outlook. I had several emails stuck in the Outbox that I didn't notice, but I was able to send them once I opened them and then hit "Send" again. I usually have problems with GMail and Outlook, but now it looks like Apple email accounts have entered the fray. I've use a @mac.com email address since they were first available, and I was worried that somehow Apple retired that address.

Thanks Thanks Thanks !!!! I did give up on it ! and tried to use another domainserver for outgoing mail .

They neraly had me using the Apple Mail Programm again (uncomfortable) But then i found your Article and now Outlook it works again !.

Wy doesnt APPLE tell everyone that they Canged the Autentification procedure ?


Well this Site here needs to be up to date by Apple then as well.
