Viewing Complete National Geographic?

I just tried to install and use my old Complete National Geographic CDs. It installed fine as a Classic application, but when I try to run it, I get the an error stating "Could not create CD registration file."

The program also does not recognize the Safari executable file when selecting the type of web browser to use.

Almost 100 years of magazines are stored as .jpg files. I was hoping the files would be accessable for some time to come. If I can't find a way to get the original program to work, I might have to resort to less efficient means of viewing them.

Here is the question (finally!) Has anyone had any success with the Complete National Geographic in OSX?

Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.

Hello Bob,

You are welcome, not much help though.

Unfortunately National Geographic does not even list ANY sets of TCNG for sale on their web site. The map sets are Windows only. I guess they have given up on the Mac platform completely.

Yes, I saw that, ms oriented, a shame ;~) Perhaps a intel mac mini some day for you ? I wonder if you could then run them with bootcamp, (I have yet to grasp this concept though we have an intel, ) i stick to my fp. and pbook

Any how I have been searching a little and I thought this was interesting because the person is a NG photographer ( perhaps he knows something),
I find this web-site interesting in general, lots of links & things albeit not the most recently updated ... I will keep an eye out , If i find anything i will post, and yes please keep us posted with your progress.

Hi Eme,

So far, Using PREVIEW and navigating through the Images folder on the CD's seems to be working not too bad. The naming convention uses the last two digits of the year followed by a letter of the alphabet for the month and finally the page number. That makes it not too hard to find a particular issue, but the search by content features are lost.

The JPEGs are fairly low quality, but it you view a complete page on the screen at once, it is fairly readable and the pictures are OK but not great. If you have a wide screen monitor, it is possible to bring up adjacent pages at one time and position them to get the full effect of NG's multiple page photo spreads.

I'll keep fiddling with this and post any other developments.

Cheers,
