Upgrading to Garageband '11 from Garageband '09

I am thinking about upgrading my Garageband '09 to the '11 program. Few questions:

  1. Would my custom effects and settings all be reset?
  2. When I open my Garageband project files created using '09, would the settings and overall sound be the same? Or will it be reset when I open it in '11?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I have used GarageBand since it first has been released and the upgrade did not change the custom effects and sounds. Your custom effects are stored in your user library and not in the GarageBand application.

But your only way to ensure, that you can revert to the state you are having now, if something should go wrong, is to follow the beste practice and make sure that you have a full backup of your system before installing any update.

Before I install an upgrade I create a bootable clone of the systems on an external drive, and this way I can always run the previous state by booting from the clone or reverting to that state by cloning it back. Sometimes an update will cause unexpected incompatibilities with older drivers, or the update does not work properly, because of network trouble.
