Unlikely to be a virus.
If you are able to pass a window under it and doesn't change with the surroundings, it is independent of the graphics redraw routines. Sometimes a fishy thing can happen withe power inverter board, or the cables going to the display that could cause this to happen. It is after all an active matrix display. I'd backup your data, and send it to a service center. If it is out of warranty, http://www.dttservice.com/ and http://www.powerbookresq.com/ are recommended. Also if it is obvious you dropped your computer, I'd recommend taking it to them.
