Q: 7.0.2 update broke iphone

I plugged my iPhone 4  into my computer to connect it to iTunes. It alerted me that I had an update to download (7.0.2). I did so, after restarting the device automatically, it failed to come back up. It is now stuck on the "Connect to iTunes" screen, the cable => iTunes icon.

Connecting to iTunes doesnt even recgonize the device. It doesnt popup in iTunes at all for me to be able to select a restore option. Windows hears the device connect to the OS.

7.0.2 seems broke!

The same problem for me, and the solutions mentioned early did fix it, though it took a long time to restore. I'm on a mac laptop so I thought I'd compile the notes from Frikkienand ChrisVaz347into one post.

    1. Put your phone in DFU mode

         Step One

Open iTunes and connect the iPhone to your Mac.

         Step Two

Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.

         Step Three

After exactly 10 seconds release the Sleep/Wake button.

Continue holding the home button until iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.

    2. on your mac, open terminal. At the cursor, type or paste:

    sudo nano /private/etc/hosts

Then hit control + x to exit. Y then enter.

    Then type or paste:

    sudo dscacheutil -fllushcache

    3. At this point, going back and doing the restore finally worked for me. Without doing step 2 it was taking me in a loop of trying to restore and failing.

    Hope this helps.

Nothing was happening after that so i unpluged my phone and then plugged back in. after that it said you have to restore your phone in order to use it and doing so it will erase all your media and data. tdj7 you are a miracle worker! I don't know how many hours I have been spending on this switching between different computers/cables trying to figure out the problem..

Finally was able to find this thread and try it out! It's 1am and I have been going at this most of the day.. SO frustrating!

I will say that this isn't the first time where I have tried updating my phone and some error making me restore the phone happens. I am very disappointed in Apple.

I have a lot of their products but lately it has been brutal..

Anyways, luckily I backed my info up before this happened. Thanks again and best of luck to everyone else!

I updated my 4s two days ago, now experiencing severe battery drain. I've turned off everything and still my battery won't last longer than 3 hrs on standby, what a disappointment.

It's also happened to My 4S. Apple should release another update to fix the problem, also Apple should replace our 4S unit because our battery now is degraded and probably some of the parts are damage because of the extreme overheating caused by Apple update…

I have seen this problem on iphone 4 and was not able to fix it. The error itunes gave was error 29. Phone was updated to ios 7 and then went into a recovery mode loop. DFU restore did not work, setting Windows hosts file back to default and DFU restore after did not work.

Not sure if the firmware is faulty or itunes 11.1 is bad. I noticed itunes tries to verify the firmware twice. Once before beginning restore. It will restore firmware to 90% then tries to verify it again and thats where I saw it fail. Looked up error 29. Claims that I should turn AV and firewall off. The computer has no AV for that reason and firewall was turned off for that moment.

I have also seen ios 7 install fine on some iphone 4s. Is it a hit or a miss with this ios?

I had the same problem this morning (3rd of October 2013).

Got my iPhone 3rd of October 2011, so I hope it was purely coincidental that it broke today.

After several days of trying and failing to start the 7.0.2 upgrade, it finally got started - that bricked my phone.

With some help, I manually installed the upgrade file (ipsw file) with the kind of sorcery previously posted and described in this thread.

Even so, Apple lost reliability with this and recent upgrades. What can I expect from Apple in the future?

Guess that won't matter, as I ordered a Sony Xperia Z1 today.

I seem to be having an entirely worse problem then all of you. Ready for this bomb shell?

I have the iphone 5. I updated to IOS 7.0.2 yesterday from IOS 7.0.0

My phone went BLACK during the update and my computer no longer recognized it. I unplugged it and tried to turn it on. nothing. plugged it into multiple wall chargers. nothing. plugged it into a different computer. nothing. tried dfu mode. nothing. then finally got it to recognize by connecting to my mac and then trying DFU mode.

NOW. when it recognized of course it was in recovery mode. so i restored it to my back up and it successfully updated to 7.0.2

when it turned on It no longer recognizes the touch of my finger. or anyone elses by that matter, and by that I mean... the screan DOES NOT WORK. I cant slide to unlock, or do anything.

now here is where it gets insane. It is almost like someone else is in control of my phone. without even touch the phone it will start going to different apps and doing whatever it wants. it went to my texts and sent random letters to random people in my phone. it went to my contacts and called random people and hung up. i watched it for quite a while. I even filmed this using a different phone that i will most likely be posting on youtube as proof and hopefully someone will offer me a solution. it acts 100% possessed. switches from games to music to my camera where it took a picture with the flash on back to texting people all by its self. I finally had enough when it went to the appstore and it almost succesfuly purchased an app before i did a hard reset. INSANE HUH!!!!

Now since then. I have restored it probably 20 times. i tried going back to 7.0.0 which actually worked but it was still a haunted iphone. no matter what i do it remain haunted and unusable. I have spent the last day in airports phoneless using every chane I get trying to fix my phone, Nothing. seeing is how an apple store visit isnt possible for me for atleast a couple of days... any advice from the real guinesses in the world of apple... (YOU) ?

Please help me. anyone else have iphone that seems to have sold it's own soul to the devil himself?
