I recently purchaced a book in itunes on my pc in and it works and is visible fine (win7pro) but it does not show up on my ipad or iphone in itunes,
I notice this is the same with all of my audiobooks I buy from Itunes.

Audiobooks are currently a one-time only download from the store, if you want them in the Music apps on your devices then you will need to connect them to your computer and sync them.
I purchased an audiobook on my work computer. I need the book on my iPhone but I sync my iPhone with my MacBook. How do I get it on there if I don't sync with my work desktop?
Copy the audiobook onto a flash drive and copy it from there into your Mac's iTunes (File > Add To Library) that you sync the phone to.
To find where the audiobook is stored on your work computer so that you can copy it off, select it in the iTunes library and right-click it (control-click on a Mac) and select 'show in explorer' ('show in finder')
