Why do my podcasts keep disappearing after I download them to my computer.

Since updating iTunes to the newest version, I have been having problems with my podcasts. Specifically, my episodes keep disappearing. The first time I figured it was a fluke, but it happened again and again. Every time I close iTunes and open it again, the podcasts have disappeared even though I have all my podcasts set up to keep all episodes. The episodes are all still listed, but there is a little cloud with an arrow inside pointing down next to each one. There are a handful of random episodes that are still there (without the cloud and arrow icon). I searched for the files in my computer's music folder and even the files are suddenly missing and I know they used to be there. I don't know why this keeps happening. Is anyone else having this problem and how can I stop it from happening?

iPhone 5 running iOS 7

Both iTunes and iPhone have 'Episodes to keep' set to 'All'

Only use one iOS device so hadn't deselected that. Will try and let you know.

After making my original post in this thread, I started downloading all of my podcasts again. With 20 to go, went back into the library and all but 3 had deleted again. No shut down of iTunes, no sync of device.

Something is very broken for so many people to have had to conduct work around becuase of these issues with the podcast app and handling of podcasts in the library. I'm becoming increasingly concerned that an application update has so much control over files being deleted from my system.

I have an iPhone 4s running iOS 7 and I also have both my iPhone and iTunes set to "keep all episodes". I wonder if the recent updates have changed the way iTunes saves your podcast files. Even though all my episodes have the little cloud and arrow icon, they still play when I click on them from my computer. Maybe the episodes are now saved in the Cloud, rather than on my computer. Personally, I would rather have them on my computer.

As far as I can see the issue is a bug in the automated hourly (for me) checking for updates. I have set this to manual and the two podcasts where my downloads kept disappearing are staying, even after I manually Refresh. This seems to be a viable workaround.

Even by Apple's recent standards, this latest iTunes 'update' is a real pain. The unremovable list of iCloud downloads is a big step back, and the disappearing podcasts just looks like software not being tested properly and then fixed slowly. This is what Apple was like in the years preceding 1998, endlessly deploying software updates before they were ready to go live in their overeagerness to keep changing things.

I found that screen was presented to me when I fired up iTunes 11.1, having restored my pre-upgrade library, the first time I went into the Podcasts section of the library. The same option can be changed at any time from Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Store > Sync podcast subscriptions and settings, though obvioulsy at this stage I wouldn't suggest you enable it.

I am having this same issue. Has anyone called Itunes support to resolve this issue? I have resorted to copying the files from my itunes library to a seperate folder until this huge bug is fixed. Apple has been letting me down lately. This bug, forcing me to use the podcast app, and the imessage issues which seem to have been resolved. I like ios7, but they have created a couple major bugs.

Same problem. I am a daily Podcasts listener, and podcasts that worked the day before will literally not work the next day. All the podcasts on my iphone will suddenly be broken. This keeps happening to me, and it's most glaring when I try to resume listening to an episode I listened to half of on the previous day. I suddenly get the error message:

Episode Unavailable: "This episode is temporarily unavailable from [Podcast name]

This started when I got the new Iphone 5s (iOS7) and was forced to switch to using the Podcasts app outside of the Music app. And now it's happening constantly to my regular podcasts. The listened to status is also sometimes wrong. Podcasts I've already listened to, and in some cases deleted, will show up again as fresh downloads.

I have to remove the corrupted podcasts one by one and download them again manually.

RIDICULOUS and UNUSABLE. This Podcasts app does not work.

I'm having the same problem with episodes that I've never listened to. I download episodes, leave the house, and get the "Episode Unavailable" message when I try to listen to them. I have cellular and wi-if turned off on my iPad so it shouldn't be trying to stream episodes (especially since they appeared to download correctly; cloud+arrow-pointing-down not visible). I don't see how it could be a problem with the podcaster's end if it appears to download...

Deleting, re-adding, and re-downloading does not appear to help.

I don't have this problem anymore. I can't remember how I fixed it, or if it just fixed itself. I feel like it might have been fixed with a subsequent update, but I can't really remember. For one thing, I stopped using the Apple Podcast app. It is total garbage. I use RSSRadio7 to listen to podcasts now. You can download new episodes directly to your phone which is really nice. I always had a problem getting them from my computer to my phone with the Apple Podcast app; it never worked right. I still download them on my computer, but that is mostly so I have the files stored on my computer.

Why do my podcasts keep disappearing after I download them to my computer.
