phone rings and no problem with calls, but I have no sound bar and can not hear videos or I tunes

So does making the toothbrush wet with the alcohol short circut any electronics?
That did not solve the trick for me. The sound problem began IMMEDIATELY after updating to iOS 7, therefore I am relating it to that. Doing a search on Google I see this is a common problem.
Is anyone aware of a fix or bypass, other than cleaning the port?
Exactly the same problem here. Did you find a solution? My sound problem started after upgrading to IOS 7 also. Tried everything, restored it, and still doesn't work. It is driving me nuts.

the problem is with your charger port , after many months of research , its wear and tear on the port , making the phone think its docked to a music staion when its not ,i just bought knew iphone 4s charging dock og ebay £4 pound odd , and i haveall my sounds back now , eureka
Did the same and it worked for me.
All you have to do is to shut off the phone. Very little amount of alcohol. Scrub the connector a little and let it sit to dry for like 10 minutes or less. You can use a hair dryer to dry it fester. Use common sense. It worked for me got my vume bar back on YouTube videos and music app.
